In the late 80s I met a girl and we became friends. By that time she was suffering from breast cancer at a very early age and she finally died some years later. We lost contact and I heard about her death last year. She was a big fan of Reggae and Jamaica and once I told her I´ll write a song about her waiting for me on Jamaica with an umbrella. Finally this song turned out.
Sad matter but happy mood and def. no roots-reggae, more an off-broadway-pop © version of it ;-)
Lyrics: Johnny Ace
Bass: (off-site-player) Wolfy Ziegler
B3 and Backupvocals: Al „catfish“ Bacon
Umbrella on Jamaica
© 2013 Johnny Ace, Henry Mittnacht
How do you tell an Angel she has a broken wing
That the miracle she needs is not yours to bring
Judy Wild was a woman child who had everything
all the reasons why, she might never fly
Only made her want to sing!
And She said, "I'm going once more to Jamaica"
if you're lonely, then you're the only one for me
I'll have a beautiful, blue umbrella
we'll float there on a breeze..... with an
Umbrella on Jamaica
Where they all love Marley sing
Under the sun with a big umbrella
"You can find me in Jamaica"...
Under the sun with my blue umbrella
i'll be the one singing acappella
by the shining sea
For even half a chance at a true romance
We should dance like fools
Throw away the plans, and the books
that demand we obey the rules
Judy Wild, had a grace and style
seen from miles away
She walks thru my mind, from time to time
i'm still thinking of her today...
Now, Judy Wild has flown away
On a wild and windy day
With her beautiful blue umbrella
I know she's floating to Jamaica
Over the shining sea

Well, Wolfy is a real pro!!! Says he plays with pros and earns his money.
I may ask him for a track here and there but I know he´d never join our community here :'(

Hi Henry,
Another lovely production!!!
I didnt know to expect, I am not a huge reggae fan, but this sounds great!!
Appealing hook, super guitar and bass playing.
Vocals sound good, and Al's backing vocals adds that extra spice!!
Great stuff.

Cheers to "umbrellas on Jamaica"!

Hey it's like a Pop reggae tune
The melody & lyrics are great, really work well together - good vocals too Doc.
One thing bugged me - the off beat Hi Hat was a bit of a distraction ::)
But the tune is damned catchy it's easy to ignore after a while >:D

raggae meets pop...or the other way around.

Thanks, guys, for your kind words! ;)
I was working pretty hard on the drums, espec. the hihats .. :-[ :'( which indeed where WAY too prominent. Turning them more down or alike would have affected that off-beat-reggae-groove... it´s part of the show here ;-)

Geeeeeeeeeee, guys!!!!!

THANKS A LOT!!! :-*

Just listening again. This is "INCREDIBLE" and so personal, one of your best ... this is what music is suppose to be, it's suppose to rip your heart out. Well done all.

Thank you, Casia!!!!! :-*
Well, it´s always the more "untypical" songs that stick out and are considered better than others...
And a Reggae posong IS QUITE unusual for me! ;)
-
Reggae or not, this is wonderful! great lyrics and great music. You are the man with pop appeal doc!
Great playing and great vocals too. Be proud of it mate. How can you make it sound that professional?

Henry, your voice has a nice character. And it reminds me of someone, but I can't put my finger on it. Maybe his name was Henry Mittnacht ... ;)
Good job, catchy tune!

Steffen
