Title: Livin' for the Weekend (AndyD, Mr Mom, GuitarGeorge, AndyG, Albino)
Post by: docca3 on January 20, 2011, 05:30:25 PM
This started as one song ... and morphed into a different riff from yours truly. John's lyrics and melody just jumped out as perfect :) Andy did his usual brill stuff on bass and Steve must have burst a bloodvessel or two on the drums ... phew!!

But I think the biggest plaudits for this HAVE to go to George for an EXTRAORDINARY vocal peformance ... reminiscent of Rob Halford in his pomp ... just brilliant. It changed the feel of the song completely ... and made it a 'whole lotta fun'.

When Mark tried to do a mix, he found the tracking is to be a tad ... er .... flexible - but it fits with the feel of the song ... this is my mix ...  a bit wild and wooly, but such a lot of fun to blast out in the car!!.

I also made a muvizu video for it - which can be found at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gG3M3Cifn_8

So - here it is ... we're Livin' for the Weekend  >:D

Lyrics: Mr Mom (John)
Music/Guitars/Production: Docca3 (AndyD)
Bass: AndyG6508 (AndyG)
Drums: Albino (Steve)
Vocals extraordinaire: GuitarGeorge (George)

Livin' for the weekend

v1:
Monday - I'm hung over
By Tuesday - I am bored
...Wednesday - ain't no humpin'
By Thursday - always poor

Friday - cash my paycheck
Gonna blow it - in the bars
Lots of drinkin' - lots of music
Dream of ROCKIN' - with the stars...

Pre-chorus:
I don't wanna work... I just... wanna ROCK
I don't wanna work... I just... wanna ROCK
Yeah... to HELL with work... I just... wanna ROCK
I don't wanna work... I just... wanna ROCK

v2:
Livin'... for the weekend
It's the only time I'm free
Got no bosses... got no time cards
No old lady... buggin' me

Livin'... for the weekend
Gonna head out... in my car
Gonna meet up... with my best friends
Gonna jam with.. my guitar

Chorus 1:
Life's too short... just to punch a clock
I ain't got no time for work 'cos I just wanna ROCK
I'm livin' for the weekend ... it won't get me very far
So grab a beer, get over here and listen to my guitar...... yeah!

Instrumental

I don't wanna work... I just... wanna ROCK
I don't wanna work... I just... wanna ROCK
Don't give me work... just give me ROCK
I don't wanna work... I just... wanna ROCK

v1 repeat:

Chorus 2:
Life's too short... just to punch a clock
I ain't got no time for work 'cos I just wanna ROCK
I don't wanna waste my life ... that won't get me very far
So I'm livin' for the weekend and I'm headin' for the stars ......

Lead-out:
random repeats of:
Livin' for the weekend .....
I just wanna rock .....

Hi AndyD,

Great stuff - as you said a tad loose but a whole lotta fun to be involved on this wild rollercoaster.

Energetic performances from everyone, and your guitar solos melt wax!!

The video is super fun too!

When you get the time, do post up an ape of this ditty.

Thanks for the invite to play!

AndyG

Thanks for the ride Andy!!
If I wanted to be picky, I would say that you released this 1 day too soon - tomorrow starts the weekend. ;D ;D

As you say, when comparing those first vocal samples we each barked out, with George's vocals is like comparing a master violinist with fingernails on a chalkboard :o
Kudos to the whole band 8)

Absolutely love this track and loved playing on it.
Well done everyone.

I personally cannot hear the "loose" side to it. But I did grow up listening to old, raw punk and rock, which is possibly why I can't hear it, because all the old greats are played loose. I think that's what gives it it's vibe and feel. All that can be lost if it is too tight, most modern rock can be testament to that.

Words that Jack Black would be proud of, I think John (MrMom).
Great tongue in cheek track and video.

Well done Andy.

Steve.

I had a lot of fun with this.  :) :) :)

I don't think it sounds too loose to me, but about right, sort of like a live recording. Mind you it would a challenge to sing that live, it would have to be near the start of a set.

If Jack Black would be proud then that's good enough for me. He's the man !  >:D

;D Yeah Steve, I can actually picture Jack Black singing this in "School of Rock" 8) 8)
Of course, I don't know if his students could have done what you did on the drums :o :o
