  • Professionalism is an attitude
Just finished this. It's nice to just work on one of your own songs from time to time. I'm not a lyricist and I found it hard to write down on paper what my thoughts were and in a coherent way. I wanted to have a slight conflict whereby the music was uplifting but the lyrics weren't.

Thanks for listening.

All Time Low
Words and Music - Billy Playle

verse 1
She had an appointment with the Doctor today
And gasped when she heard the news
They told her not to put her life on hold
But there was nothing that surgery could do

lift
What can you do
The hand of fate can be cruel
She couldn't understand after all she had done
And just when her life was going so well

chorus
Now it's an all time low
Fractured and swollen, spinning in circles
Pitifully bleak
Precious are the days that you can find some shelter
Learning to cope with your life

verse 2
I know you've lost all the dreams that you had
And it's filled your heart with despair
When all your plans are falling apart
And emptiness is all that's left

lift
What can you do
The hand of fate can be cruel
All our paths are winding
Descending into the darkness
Ascending into the light

chorus
Now it's an all time low
Fractured and swollen, spinning in circles
Pitifully bleak
Precious are the days that you can find some shelter
Learning to cope with your life

bridge instrumental

chorus
Now it's an all time low
Fractured and swollen, spinning in circles
Pitifully bleak
Precious are the days that you can find some shelter
Learning to cope with your life

Billy:

Nice, I think you accomplished your goal of putting your feelings down and putting together a fine aggrangement for this.  Enjoyed it.

Hi Billy,

From one Billy to another, it's not always easy to write lyrics, especially when you have many thought processes spinning in your head, but you have done a good job in expressing the fate accompli of a terminal illness.

I enjoyed the whole thing!

super stuff.

I love the arrangement, especially the horns and rhodes piano.
George can often be found playing stringy things, and singing...

A delicate topic, mastered perfectly. Great stuff, Billy, and I hear A LOT of Steely Dan in this song. Very, very nice.

Oh No...Billy maybe you have spent too much time on the Dark Dolphin music and it's rubbing off on your lyrics  ;D

All kidding aside, this is a nice tune..it reminds me of a Howard Jones Album I have in the loft somewhere 'In the Running' when he did more contempory style music. ( worth a listen on Spotify BTw..mixed by Bob Clearmountain )

CD
We never finish a mix... we simply abandon them.
You can't polish a turd, but you can always spray paint it GOLD
Great songs are not written, they are re-witten
