Thanks to the new job (which is a big reason for my decline in productivity as of late...  i know, i know... it's always something with me) I am now in possession of an Intel Core Duo, 2.16Ghz, 2 GB DDR2 MacBook.   >:D >:D >:D

My audio interface is a MOTU 896 that works flawless with GarageBand (which is coming in handy for doing some podcasting).

Does anyone know of any really good, but free, DAW software along the lines of Reaper?  Reaper is scheduled for release for OS-X later this year, but I am chomping at the bit to put this thing to work!  LOL

I did manage to get Cubase SX3 running via Windows XP in Parallels, but was hoping to try something a little more "native" to the OS-X experience.  No complaints on using Cubase from within Parallels, though.  It runs better on the MacBook via Parallels than it does on my main DAW which is a P4, 2.53 gHz pure windows homebrew box.  ;D

Yep, no midi for audacity :(

If you have a MOTU unit, did you get any software with it?  MOTU usually gives a free copy of Audiodesk with their interfaces, which is OSX ony ... bascially it's a "lite" version of digital performer and works pretty well.

HTH, and welcome to the "dark" side LOL :D

Thanks for the info guy.

I am familiar with audacity, but need something more.

I will have to check on the software that came with the MOTU896.  There might be something there I could use.

Oh, it's not so much "Welcome to the dark side" as much as it is "Welcome BACK to the dark side."  >:D  I was an avid mac user up until about OS7.6. My computer at the time couldn't handle OS* so I had a choice to make, and because of the price performance gap at the time made the move to windows.

After being imersed in Window land for so long, it is really nice to go back to the mac.   ;D

Gerk...

there is now a version of reaper out there OSX.  I DL'd it over the weekend and messed around with it.  What they have working on it seems to be rock solid.

Not really sure what is missing and what still has to be done.

For straight ahead mixing it looks like it is fully functional.

 ;D

here is a link to the forum thread at Reaper's forums.  The first post has the dmg files.  The post says it is still a "super alpha" build, but is a nice look at what is to come
