Settle down
 (Tricia Dovidio (c) 2013)

bpm=120

Intro: Dm/C/Am/Dm x2 then G A Dm

Dm       C        Am
I wasn't ready
                        Dm
but I caught your eye
               C       Am
I had been seeing
                Dm
some other guy
                  C    Am
Found myself torn
                       Dm
and couldn't say no
                            C       Am
But The tides were against me,
                 Dm      A
and I had to go

     C                             Dm
But You were everybody's fun guy
   Am C             Dm
A real Good time Charlie
       C       Dm          Am C  Dm
with pretty women at every turn
      C           Dm
And everyone loved you
    Am    C  Dm
So cool, so charming
  C          Dm       A
I couldn't see you settling ...
          Dm
for just one

Dm/Dm7x2

When our paths crossed
later on
One year wiser
2 hearts strong
A few good memories,
we'd part again
Never together but
ever friends

You were everybody's fun guy
a real Good time Charlie
with pretty women at every turn
And everyone loved you
So cool, so charming
I couldn't see you settling
for just one

Bridge:
G                         F
Did I play with your feelings?
A#                      C
Didn't you toss my love around?
G                     Dm
You wanted the real thing?
       C                 A
but I saw you as a clown.

Solo: over verse chords

You were that fun guy
The Good time Charlie
With A pretty woman
in every town
And everybody loved you
So cool, so charming
I just couldn't see you settling,
              A     Dm
 settling down
G                 A
maybe you'll never
         Dm
settle down

Tricia, the MP3 is from a very old version. I think you'd better replace that. :)

i like the song.
...but...
the vocals sound retrained.
especially when it kicks into the chorus from the more mellow intimate verse.
plus, even though i don't usually like vocals way out front, i always think Tricia's vocals needs to be a little more out front than most.
love the lead guitar --- killer tone.
overall it's good tune and a good mix --- i just like to hear more of Tricia.

The song is not really mixable, Mark. Too many serious issues with the seps. But you are right about the vocals, they should cut through the mix a little better. I clearly overdid the mix-rescue attempt there.

I'll fix that, but that will be my last and absolutely final tweak. I actually only did this mix because Mark seems to be unavailable, and you all have been waiting for so long already.

  Steffen

But, just to make that clear: I do like the song itself and the performances. :)

I really appreciate everyone for contributing to this! An old friend found me on facebook and saw that I was a songwriter and asked me to write a song about him.
I don't think this is one of my best writings, but I'm glad it's done,

Sometimes we gotta make mediocre songs to get to the good ones! ;) I'm happy with it as it is.

And my friend Mike thinks it came out great! He had only heard my original crappy unplugged version haha!

Hi Steffen,

The crunch guitar during the chorus is surely too loud :)

I don't even know if I used the correct seps ...

Tricia, the songwriting is not bad at all! The song itself is not the problem IMO. However, I must admit that I still have great difficulties in understanding the structure of the arrangement. I cannot quite make out the main elements of the song, and that's essential for a mix to work.

I'll give it one last try.

  Steffen

No! This mix is fine! Don't waste any more time on it. Onward and upward! Haha >:( ;)

I did it anyway. ;) :P

The seps are much too unstable and contourless to create a mix that really works (at least I'm out of ideas), but maybe this one works at least a little better.

BTW, I used a different bass sep in this version. I wasn't sure which one was meant to be used, so I decided to go with this one.

Yea!!   8)

It's very nice to see this in the finished collab section!

This is a special song to me in that it is my first collab here at MCS.  I love this song, and it will remain one of my favorites.  :)

Great job to all involved... Thanks very much for letting me play!!

Thank you Bobby and Mark for you nice words RE the lead guitar!  Much appreciated!  :)

Frank

I'm very thankful to have talented musicians playing on these songs! MCS is the best site.

So happy. I was blown away by Frank's guitar skills when he auditioned on this. I'm proud to be part of his first MCS collab!

I hope to snag him for another tune soon!   ;D

It was great working with Bobby, Steve and Andy again too. Always fun. I imagine one day being retired and having plenty of time to collab!  Wait. not sure I can ever retire... our country is falling apart,...  :P   lol

I feel like Steffen should get a medal for devoting so much energy to this one!  ;D

Thanks Holgier! Every song I write seems ridiculous to me until it's done. I end up googling some of my lines to make sure it's not already a famous song I might have heard. and accidentally stolen, ha ha!

The good news is, my drummer has fallen in love with this song! He listens all the time and he shares it with friends and coworkers who also seem to love it!

I'm happy that you guys worked so hard on it! :)

Nice one Gang

Sorry I couldn't get back to this guys but in the time I had available it wasn't really 'Mix Ready' which is a shame because I like the actual song alot more than the arrangement it ended up with.

Like Steffen said the seps had some issues, and I don't think the world's best mixer could have made it sound a million dollars.

But Bravo for finishing it, I still think it's got something going for it in the songwriting dept.

Thanks for trying! And I'm content with it. It is being listened to by a few people I know, and that's the point anyway.

My drummer is making us play it in our band now. Haha, I have a hard time playing Andy's bass line while singing.  ;D

My drummer is trying to get my husband to play Zax's parts perfectly, however......  :D  This might take a while.
