I Belong

1st verse
I saw an old man walking up and down my street
The suitcase in his hand matched the dirt on his feet
It looked to me like he lost his way
Walking in circles so out of place
The third time goin’ past told me he needed a friend
He said “no thank you, they’re already here”

1st chorus
“There’s Bob, he loves to fish at the lake
Mike’s done driving forty years down that interstate
Barbara Jean, she’s sweet on me, she was a school teacher in Abilene
Ed’s always got a smile on his face
Finally the world thinks I can do no wrong
For the first time in my life, I belong”

2nd verse
I stood there looking but they were nowhere to be seen
It seemed he was asleep right through a living dream
I opened the door and said “come in”
“Where are you now and where you’ve been?”
He tipped his hat smiling and began to turn around
“There’s no time to talk, we’re Tennessee bound”

2nd chorus
“There’s Bob, he just got back from fishing
Mike and Ed just showed up here with the tickets
Barbara Jean is looking sweet, in that blue dress if you know what I mean
That train is taking us to see Old Hank
Finally the world thinks I can do no wrong
For the first time in my life, I belong”

Bridge
I don’t know what world it was but it seemed to be paradise
Happiness, love and good friends frozen in time
