EDIT: Judges Comments
Judges Comments:
Ian: Nice guitar, drums, keys. Band is hot.
Michael: Nice guitar playing in the intro. Not sure if I love the harmonies put into the verses, but big points for doing that, and their well done. Overall, good feel on the basic tracks. The chord change under the solo sounded like the wrong ones to me, a minor point, but the change wasn't an improvement.
John: Oh my goodness what's with the panning on the intro? - when the right kicks in it's good
Awesome lead guitar player
Solid rhythm section
Good leads and background vocals (perhaps consider backing off the BG's and let the lead go for it until later in the song)
Great lead guitar solos - feels a bit dry - you should buy some pedals
Third verse vocals are really good (this time you have the BG's right)
Clear potential on this one
Thanks everyone!

I am just getting ready to go vote, but if you are still using the firefox browser Brina, like I am, it wouldn't even let me hear the music with it last night. If you switch over and use IE, I am sure it will let you vote, cuz I could play the music fine then.
Song sounds great BTW....

VOTED! (Tried to vote again but couldn't) ::)
-
Voted. Excellento!
-
An interesting thing I just figured out.... It is very easy to skew the votes, because on our song it now only has a 3.8 ave, and I could bet all the money in my pocket that noone from here that voted gave it less than a 5...right? On the other hand, if anyone listened to the darn thing, I can't see it getting less than a 4, ok, maybe a 3 if someone is a complete idiot. So I think what is going on is the people with the other songs are just going through, and giving all the other songs a 1. I mean, some of the songs that already won there weeks competition are really crap as far as I am concerned, so how else did they win? I may be right, or I may not, but just to make sure, I voted all the other crap songs a 1 >:D. See, now if all of us did that, it might turn out fair in the long run... Just an observation...

I'd at least give em what they deserved....irregardless...
Now if its a 1 so be it...<grin>

I am pretty sure it is a popularity contest. Most votes wins.
I don't think the stars have anything to do with it. So don't give your votes away!
:)
Nick
-
You got my vote of five. Listened to it and was blown away!
Well done, lads....well done.
-
couldn't we get other musicians from collaboration sites to vote for us? Or maybe we should at least let 'm know we have entered one...
Ootle
-
Ootle,
I sent out about 200 emails that should equate about the same amount of votes. You all should have received an email from this site. (with a bad link I might add)
If everyone forwarded that to just a couple of friends...we would have a boatload of votes.
We can post it on other sites...I'd just like to give it a day or so for the collab sites.
Nick

From what I read its an average of the stars from all the votes for that individual song....but I dunno...

1 submission will move on to the finals based on the average votes of visitors

Voted 5 twice...once at at home and once at the office. ;)
We have more PCs at the shop...shall I?

We have two hundred over here, Jeff, but they recognise the IP, so fat chance that's gonna work. It didn't over here (tried all two hundred ;) )
thanx for your vote, though and all the others that are voting for this project..
Found the e-mail Nick, I'll start spamming all my friends right away!
-
mmm, not entirely true, as Nick stated earlier: there are ways. I just don't know of them...
Ootle
-
We have at least 50 computers here at work and I just tried another computer and sure enough it will not let me vote. Too bad. >:(
-
Ya'll got my vote.
One thing though, it may be my ISP but when I used the link in the email the page would not load. I had to go directly to Gillan's site to vote.
If this was a "most original" contest I'd have to give the vote to the guy with the mandolin ;)

About the voting! This is what I got:
Hi Nick,
You move to the finals based on the average stars for the most part. If someone has 2 votes and an average rating of 5, that isn't going to make the cut of course.
In the finals, Ian Gillans, Michael Lee Jackson (his manager), and John Trickett (CEO) of immergent will choose the overall winners.
Thanks
So.....I still think it's the most votes, although this makes it even less positive! That would be way to easy to skew the results. If you look at the winners of past weeks, average stars with monster total votes!
Nick
-
I voted to
I was able to vote more than once .
-
Got the e-mail Nick, figgered out the link (how hard is cut'n'paste? lol) went and listened, and it's 5***** stuff no doubt! I'll vote again tomorry from work... ^-^
IMO superior to the original (and I was around when that was a hit)! Congrats to everyone involved!
[edit]
I just posted the link at Echo Project Studio.
I 'spect everyone there is a member here, too, but figgered it can't hurt... ;)

Thanks Dan And Preston.
shame the other guy figured a cheat. Oh well.
Nick
-
I'll give a you guys a vote. There was discussion on proxy in f-jam, the concensus is negative. No need to cheat to win, if someone else does it, well they're really a loser. I want to see you in the finals so I'm voting. This version rocks.
I'm singing for a version we'll enter next week with f-jam.
When we come head to head in the final tho don't be afraid to :'(
-
Yeah,
I agree. We don't need it. However, feel free to get your family to use their IP and vote for us! :)
Nick
-
The star rating is looking better... 8) 8)
-
Nice work - I've voted for you.
Please return the favour for the FJAM entry next week.
Guitar George
-
Thanks George.
If we don't win this week, we might be in next weeks too! So remind all the F-Jammers to give us 5 stars and get us out of the way!
LOL
Welcome to the site. Hope you like it!
NickT
-
Next week F-Jam goin' in 8) so it'll be a bit of a fight >:D shame I won't be here to witness it :( but good luck! when I checked you were only 24 votes behind.

Yea those poeple are real nice. Crazy obsessed for battloetech but nice.

The justmedans Karaoke band is more fraudulous than my uncle Vinnie.....
it can't be right, every time we approach 'm they sky rocket 50 votes up, and the average goes up like crazy as well......
Ootle
-
I'm with you on that one John...........................el Jigerros el Pokerros me thinks!!
-
Anyone notice he's the week 2 winner in the vocals category
and he's also entered this week under the name ( just dan )?
He seems to have some high scores in the vocal category this week as well.
Ken
-
I believe you guys will be entitled o win this one this week. ;D
Mr karaoke has NOT done a remake of the original for this entry. He has simply downloaded their novocal mix and screamed like a cat on fire to it.
I think it will pay to notify the Ian Gillan's webpage of this oversight....NOW
I read the info and it says this:
Quote: "record a new take of your band's version of Smoke On The Water and submit it to us."
also in the additional info:
"In the band version, contestants will brawl to see who can do anything from the most faithful remake of the entire song to the most outrageous version known to man!!!"
I think this should constitute a disqualification for our wedding singer karaoke Idol friend.
-
"Mr karaoke has NOT done a remake of the original for this entry. He has simply downloaded their novocal mix and screamed like a cat on fire to it"
LOL........Great way of interpiting luke....LOL
I would say this will disqualifyed.....
"I think it will pay to notify the Ian Gillan's webpage of this oversight....NOW"
-
I didnt get a chance to see who had the highest stars last nite....but if the sream'n cat-man gets it we need to e-mail the contest to let them know he use the vocal backing track for the band contest....
-
Please remember to Vote for F-jam this week guys. ^-^
The winner for last week is not up yet, but I'm sure you're it.
Hope to be singing around here soon.
-
Congrats......MC :) :) :) :) :) :)

Nick

Thanks Nick, I had a great holiday :) It was the first holiday the familys had together in 8 years... so it was good... It's understandable that we don't have holidays that often, due to the fact that there are 8 kids ^-^ there a lot of work to get 8 kids in order to go on holiday (they are well behaved...most of the time..... :P )
It looks like F-Jam didn't win :(
Cheers Dan
-
Ummm... There are two week six band winners.... That can't be right :o
-
I think there's some smoke on the (billy) water goin on there.

Nick
-
Have you gotten any word on the contest???
-
No Torie,
The site says they are busy with the tour and will have a winner in a couple of days.
That's all I've heard.
Nick
-
Did anyone watch the clip of that guitarist in NYC?
-
I see they posted all the comments for each of the weeks winners. Seems we got pretty good marks from them. Not sure if it was enough to win though, some really good praise for one of the other entries. Check it out, interesting to see what the real people think with there honest opinions.
Curtis

Well....we took some chances. Interesting what they thought. I got gigged on the panning hard. Funny, it's panned like the original!
I don't know that we changed the chording. It was brought to my attention that song is implied Gm and the vocal harmony is a major (my fault B). All in all the comments were good and i am proud of the work that everyone did!
Nick
-
John:
Great lead guitar solos - feels a bit dry - you should buy some pedals
Sure, just like Ritchie Blackmore, he was and he is the pedal man, no doubt about it.
I'm sure this was a joke, Little Black Richard just don't like a lot of pedals his sound is dry as the desert sand.
Other than that nice reviews.
-
Whatever the judges say, Props to you guys for a great recording.
-
Well done everyone...it was a gas.
Purple always panned hard to the sides Nick so no problems there in my opinion bro.
Mr B also used to just use Marshall 100 heads that had been modded for more treble with no pedals. He sometimes used an octivider and I also remember him using a revox reel-to-reel for delay but I don't recall anything else.
Now all we need is a Zeppelin competition............................... :) :)

Congratulations!
I read some of John's comment's on the other renditions... You're right - John doesn't know much about Blackmore or the original recording of the tune.
-
Hey everyone. I dunno wtf John is talking about - our version is panned the same, unless I'm missing something...
Awesome job by everyone!!! 8)
Geoff
-
Good stuff folks. Ian said the band was hot .. he didn't say that about any other ones ;) Some he didn't even comment on or had single word comments (i.e. ok, turn that crap off and play the next tune)
As for John the "get some pedals" comment made me laugh .. who is this guy anyway .. and has he heard the original LOL? The panning was the same as Purple's version :)

I listened, I liked, I voted. This was a great collab. I'm going to download and play it on my Frontier with the big sub-woofer and drive around the neighborhood with the windows rolled down. This is a keeper.

I think it was a great job by everyone and I was glad to be a part of it. The re-creation of a classic done to perfecton. Bring on the Zep.

Glad you looked at this one John, Im on this site a couple of years and wasn't aware of this. Excellent version, I can't fault any aspect of it. Brilliant Job and great mix IMHO 8)
Is it too late to vote ;D ;D

-
John, I'm glad you do the work for us and bring up all those old collabs again. I think I hadn't heard this one before.
Great work, guys! Too bad it cannot be put up on public web sites for others to listen to due to the copyright issues ...
But we have enough talent here for original songs of the same quality, haven't we? :)
Regards,
Steffen

Time runs fast... It looks like this was yeaterday and it was in August 2006.
