Was wondering what's good to use for guitar amp plugin?
I'm using Reaper for recording software.

Thanks in advance
Basil

I have Guitar Rig 2 , Amplitube2 , Studio Devil , Vintage Amp Room, Waves GTR and a few others.

I'd say I use Guitar Rig the most outta those.

You can't polish a turd, but you can always spray paint it GOLD

Why do you need all those, CD? I got only Waves GTR and it does all the nedded stuff  :)
Live the best you can 'cause you're gonna be dead for a long time.

I have Waves GTR & Guitar Rig. Don't use either one. I have a PODX3 and a Roland GT6 floor board. Both a far easier to use than plugs.  :)

Both the Waves & Guitar Rig get high marks from those who use them though. You'll find it's 50-50 as to which one is best from the forums I've read.

Not when you're trying to change the sound of a guitar already in a mix  ::)

Well... If you have the 'right' sound in the first place then there shouldn't be any reason to be changing it. Even though I can make dry seps I really don't ever see me using them. I spend a lot of time tweaking my sounds to what 'I' want and like. Even eqing it with high cuts and low. Shouldn't be much to do in a mix then. In the video you sent me of mixing and mastering the guy in that also says the same thing. Get it right in the first place and then there's very little to do in the mix. Personally I find it a lot of trouble going through plugin sounds and trying to find what works. When I start a song I usually base it around the guitar sound that I pick. I find a sound and tone that moves me and write a song around that.  :)

I'm with Dave (studio player)'s approach, a separate pre-amp.

But we're getting away from the real topic here which is if you can't get a preamp of some sort then you have to use plugs. Waves is good. I prefer Guitar Rig. You can get some cool sounds with those plugs and they do have a good real amp tone to them. You can move and change mic settings, amps, stomps, etc. They're not bad. If you tweak them right you'll never know if it's real amps or not. At least to the average listener. For me I hate tweaking things with a mouse. I prefer shinny knobs and buttons.  :) I'd love to have a controler for doing my eq'ing etc. One of these days. I just like the hands on stuff. Miking real amps is fun and great for tone but it's limiting and more work. :)

Exactly...but that only seems to happen half the time  :o

I guess it's hard to pick the right sound when you don't know what everyone else will lay over the top.

Don't forget there is no reason you can't send a clean guitar track out to your POD or whatever and back in to the DAW.

BTW I like guitar rig as well but the plugs I suggested are a little cheaper (free).

Even eqing it with high cuts and low.

Interesting ...What frequencies don't you want?
