Title: Dear Son
Post by: Billy on March 07, 2015, 02:34:04 AM
I was sent some lyrics a while ago and decided to give it a go in the style of Andrew Lloyd Webber. It's not for everyone I know. Thanks for listening.

Dear Son

Lyrics - Mel Barnett
Music and Vocal - Billy Playle

VERSE ONE
Your letter came this morning
And I hung on every word
I read that letter a hundred times
And I wished you'd written more
.....
For a fleeting moment
You marched back into my life
And I could hear your voice (talking)
As if you were standing by my side

VERSE TWO
You promised to keep safe
And were counting down the days
Joked about your soldier friends
I know now you were being brave
.......................
Son I’m going to write a letter back
As though you were never taken
A father’s words from his broken heart
Making sense of this situation
As words are all I have

CHORUS
Dear Son I hope you know
You were the best part of me
And I’d give my life a million times
If God would only let it be
.................
I wish I’d told you before you fell
That when you chased your dreams
I was there fighting by your side............Dear son.

VERSE THREE
Your picture hangs upon the wall
My handsome boy became a man
May the Angels watch you while you sleep
While I keep marking time
.......................
I hope I never let you down
That I helped you be a man
And when you bravely stood your ground
You felt no fear or pain

CHORUS

BRIDGE
Memories fill my heart with pride
But I have a rage that burns inside
Because when you marched away from life - A part of me died
And I miss you............Dear son.

 CHORUS

Definitely Lloyd Webber style. I immediately thought of Michael Crawford - and then I read your intro. Absolutely spot on - and I never knew you could sing like that.

Lovely, your vocals are so heartfelt, I could feel it.  I hope that Mr. Barnett found your interpretation as heartfelt as I did.  The words came from his heart and you delivered them very well.

Oh yeah..totally like something I've seen on stage...seen a couple of LLoyd Webber Productions and also things like Les Mis....if you'd told me this was a cover of one them I'd have been none the wiser  8)

Really well done Billy, love all the strings  and the vocals really soar, not sure I've heard you use that part of your range before in that way. Great control and vibrato @ 2.25

Hats off Sir !

Keep saying you need to assemble an Album so there's something physical as a keepsake of all this great music you make.
