I am new to this site. I have 2 collabs started but the wav files were too big to upload so I put them in .mp3 format. My software can make .ogg files to but they are also really big. Someone on another post said that .mp3 format is bad for collabing. What program can I use to make small wave or .ogg files? Any free versions lol?
Here are the collabs..

Hey Vad ...
Yeah MP3's are a pain for collaborating because they leave a small gap at the beginning so when someone loads it into their DAW it's hard to line up with existing stuff. As Tricia said, we use .APE files for seps, but for intermediate files we also use powerAmp to convert the WAVE file to WMA. It's lossless compression so it creates a very good quality file. You can get the app and the codecs from here :

Render your tracks down to WAv...then compress the WAV to an APE file which makes file smaller.
Tricia posted the link to Monkeys Audio (APE)
Downlod monkeys Audio
open up the program and choose compress in top left.
Then just open up the files you want to compress and drag and drop right into monkeys audio and click compress button.
--------------
When receiving APE files just change to uncompress top left menu and uncompress.

I also use WAV2MP3 Wizard, which also converts to FLAC and OGG. It's free!

There is a free plug-in for Adobe Audition which supports APE, just google it.

Thanks Paul,
I just downloaded WAV2MP3 Wizard - and if I can operate it, then it passes the "even a caveman can do it" test!! ::)
Thanks,
