I thought so. I had a Tec guy from work set up my computer. I told him to disable the onboard sound. I noticed Sonar was using an ATI driver that I couldn't change and just checked my onboard sound and sure enough it was enabled. I disabled it, rebooted and Sonar still only gives me 16 bit. It now only shows the E-mu drivers though. Very strange.

I was just about to see if anything is in the Sonar forum about this.  ???

Ok. Maybe Sonar's confused by the drivers since the onboard was enabled. I still can't get it to go to 24bit no matter what I try. I'm thinking I should uninstall Sonar and reinstall it. The soundcard and Patchmix seems to be working just fine.  ???

This is frustrating.  ;D

Did you get rid of the aud.ini File? It will rebuild when you fire up sonar again.

I removed the existing aud.ini file and it rebuilt a new one. Still 16 bit. It seems I have to change a line in the .ini file. Trying to figure it out.  ::)

Thanks Nick. It was to do with the .ini file. I had to make a change on one line. Change the value to 1. I now have 24 bit and it seems to be on time.

Woo Hoo!!  >:D

Now I'm just recording too hot. Getting distorted. That should be easier to figure out.

Thanks for the help guys !!

Shouldn't need to record too hot with 24 bit, you can happily stay out the red.

Ha, I'm in Sonar hell right now. Trying to figure it all out. Plus 24 bit. Seems I don't need to record (or can't) as loud as I did with 16 bit. It's all new to me. Getting it figured out though. Should be up and recording soon. Nice to be able to multi track. CPU barely moves.  >:D

I've never had a quad core , but on my dual core the CPU meter alternates between the two cores, does it show you CPU usuage for each core on a quad ?

Yeah. It's pretty cool. I loaded all the seps of the rock song I have with Curtis, played it and in the bottom right hand corner it shows the 4 cpu's alternating. the only cpu that showed anything was #2 ??? 1, 3, & 4 were at 0 and 2 was running at about 1%. It's not a lot of seps but it sure has no problem. I can still throw a couple more gigs of ram in. I have 2gigs for now. Btw, the Sonar training video is a big help. Also I started out on Cakewalk when I first started to record so that helps. I'll be using Sonar from now on.  :)

Thanks Todd. It's starting to come together. It was hell and very frustrating getting it setup. Especially when Sonar doesn't properly reconize the soundcard. Nick helped with a tip.  :)

I can do basic stuff so far CD. Still have to figure out the midi. I'll get a midi keyboard controller next. I have a ton of sounds and would love to use them.  :)

That should be pretty straightforward...I have a little 2 octave Evolution Keyboard which is fine for my two fingered playing  ;D
