Title: The Sound of Wings - Woodford/Dempsey
Post by: snowdoguk on December 09, 2009, 05:36:04 AM
Here's a song which started life on the Isle of Wight, UK, while I was there in the Summer and missing my guitar, so I went out and bought a second hand Fender DG-15 acoustic for 40 quid and while noodling with it a chordal riff emerged, which really forms the basis of the whole song. I then discovered Paul's great lyrics, and this is the final result of a great collaboration... Many thanks to all of you who contributed to this:

Ian "Stoney" Burrage - Drums and Creative Inspiration
Andy "Giddy Mary" Gupta Hopkins - Bass and Tambourine
Tricia Dovidio - Vocals (and modifications to chorus)
Mark Fletcher - Vocals
Peter Kossits - Flute
Gary Miller - Keys
Adam "Argle" Kirby" - Mix/Production
Mike Woodford - Guitars/Arrangement
Paul Dempsey - Lyrics

The Sound of Wings Woodford/Dempsey 2009

Intro/Inst

(v1)
Every time I'm near you, When I sense you're close
My spirits, they are lifted, lifted oh so high
My heart begins to pound, I feel such wonderous things
There's a rustling of feathers
And the sound of wings

Inst

(v2)
And every time I hear you, hear you calling me
It's like a lover's song, reaching out for me
Ringing out so beautifully, your voice for me it sings
Among a rustling of feathers
And the sound of wings

(Chorus)
And now we're soaring, the wind is lifting, lifting us to a higher place
There's no worries, there's no fear, no hesitation, not a trace
Our bodies are pressing, our lips are touching and I love the taste
I am all yours and it's so thrilling wrapped in your embrace

Guitar Solo

Inst

(v3)
In times when I reflect on you, when I feel your love
I'll be so thankful to you, when I feel your love
It's all I'll ever need and what a smile it brings
Among a rustling of feathers
And the sound of wings

(Chorus)
And now we're soaring, the wind lifting, lifting us to a higher place
There's no worries, there's no fear, no hesitation, not a trace
Our bodies pressing, our lips are touching and I love the taste
I am all yours and it's so thrilling wrapped in your embrace

Inst

(v4)
We'll be together always, and our love will see us through
I'm feeling your love, as you feel my love for you
And as we play our song of joy, on vibrant heart strings
We hear a rustling of feathers
And the sound of wings

Thanks for the listen Roger, yes it is nice to hear, I always liked that song by Down Under (think that's what they were called), where the guy sat in the tree and played some flute, this sort of reminds me of that a bit.

Couldn't let Mike be the only speed demon on this one.  :)

Thanks for all the compliments on the flute lines.

I'm glad no-one asked for a picture of me with the flute. It's all black and tarnished after years of not being played and I'm too lazy to polish it. Without question the ugliest thing I've ever put to my mouth. :)

.... but think of the beautiful air ripples it can and did create ..... I thought the flute solo was outstanding too, as well as the one right at the end. Cool playing Peter

Tricia, you help kick start so many projects on this site, your willingness to compromise, re-work things, to analyse parts and suggest improvements, and above all, your ability to sing for many different genres is amazing.  Many many thanks for your wonderful vocal on this.

Hi Mike,
a really nice "tripple" duet (guitar/flute AND Mark/Tricia AND bass/guitar)
All of them in perfect harmony...
Ein "Gute Laune" piece of music!
Makes you feel happy! :)
