Hi MCS,
Some of you may have heard the "Stonehinged" band version of this tune already. That remains the definitive version of the song, with super performances by the guys.
However, I had this alternative backing track lying around with guitars and keys, with a feel a little "sparser" or "spacier" than the Stonehinged power packed version. I've always liked this version, and thought I'd release this as well.
I had everything in place, save the vocals, and once again Jay (HDA) helped out by delivering another of his soulful yet punchy vocals. Then Argle, one of our resident mix meisters :), helped to round out the sound with a clean and powerful mix!!
I hope you enjoy the listen!
Btw, this remains one of my all time fav Casia penned lyrics!!!
Cheers
Andy
The Band:
Jay Lamothe: Lead and backing vocals
Adam Rodeh: Guitars including solo
Eric Koskas: Drums
Andy Gupta: Bass, keyboards including solo
Marc Traynor: Sound engineering on bass
Adam Kirby: Mix/master
Casia: Lyricist
A Feeling of Euphoria (lyrics: Casia/music: Andy) (c) 2009, 2010
(V1)
I'm in a pill box hopin' to get high
Forget the day when you said your good-bye
I thought you were an angel walkin' thru my door
You're no angel, you're a demon to the core
(V2)
The cracks in the ceiling are starting to cry
It's been so long they're painting pictures in my mind
Put on some funky music, music for my soul
My hearts been beating in rhythm like a gatlin gun
(CHORUS)
Love
Is a drug
A feeling of euphoria
Love
Is a drug
A feeling of euphoria
- solo -
(V3)
I'm a kamikaze pilot gliding down the street
Riding the corridor where the corners meet
My senses are seduced I'm playing air guitar
Its chaos and control I'm heading straight for mars
(CHORUS)
Love
Is a drug
A feeling of euphoria
Love
Is a drug
A feeling of euphoria
(BRIDGE)
I'm running' wild in the heat of the night
Tryin' to forget the pain in my heart
Shadows all around I'm hiding from the light
Tryin' to make a new start, a brand new start
- solo -
(OUTRO)
Love
Is a drug
A feeling of euphoria
Love
Is a drug
A feeling of euphoria

Love the song, and that riff on the guitar opening up grabs you and makes you remember! Great vox! How many tracks of vocals are there in the refrain as background singers?

hey Paul,
Many thanks for the appreciative comments. Im particularly glad you liked the guitar riff, I struggle to write riff based arrangements, so it was nice to work one out.
Re the vocal layers, I will let HDA (Jay) answer, but its all Jay, Jay and Jay :)
-
Thanks Paul,... I think I did 4 part harmony there,.. and 4 tracks stereo panned of each harmony so 16 tracks of harmony plus 1 lead vox.
I dig the riff too!!

Thank you for the kind words.
For me, I learn by listening and picking up pointers from the very talented folks on here ;).
If you hold out all 4 hooves, would you topple over?

Cass,
I am so glad you have made up your mind to like this version, it is important that you, the writer, should be happy with the final result. Just like you, I like both this and the Stonehinged versions!!!
You say there are many elements you liked..thats cool..what are they..name any 5 ;)
A Video? Ahh... in that regard I must confess to 'a feeling of inertia" D
How about a video of you in a room with the walls painted in psychedelic colours - rainbows, jet plane, Mars, cracksm, rainbows, neon etc.
Thanks!
