This is a song that I wrote 26 years ago. I decided to re-record it. I think it's a country song. I'm not particularly into country music and I didn't choose for the song to go that way. For me, songs do what they're gonna do. If a song is gonna be country then it's gonna be country. This is my one and only country song.
I wrote this with a girl named Helen Simmons in mind. You all may know what I mean when I say that Helen was like cocaine to me. Really good but really bad. We would break up regularly and then she'd show up at my house at 2am and I'd let her in again just like an idiot. Finally I stopped letting her in, not because I had someone else but because it was the smart thing to do.
Anyway, Vincent steered me on this song. He was the "do-over" guy. That's not a bad thing as long as you don't make it a bad thing. He has made me a better musician. He has made this a much better song.
John (Jwoo) supplied the drums and was spot on, as usual.
I played guitar, bass and sang.
Here are the words....
Let Me Go...
Let me go before I have to stay
It's getting late and I must be on my way
If she should find out I was here it would be all over between us
So let me go while I still can
You're very beautiful this I think you know
And if I don't leave here now I don't think I can go
But I love that girl too much to give it all up for one night
So let me go while I still can
Di I remember? Yes I do
How I was once in love with you
But now I've found someone who loves me like I used to love you
And I don't want to lose that girl
So let me go before I have to stay
It's getting late and I must be on my way
If she should find out I was here it would be all over between us
And I don't want to lose that girl
If she should find out I was here it would be all over between us
And I don't want to lose that girl
