Title: Know The Place
Post by: Billy on June 27, 2014, 01:47:05 PM
Here's another song recently finished. A big thank you to George, Andy, Mark and to Donna for another wonderful lyric.

Know The Place

Lyrics - Donna Devine
Music Production - Billy Playle
Vocals - George Williams
Bass - Andy Gupta
Drums - Mark Cole

Intro (narrated)
We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time
   ....T.S. Eliot 'Little Gidding' (1942)
-----------------------------------------

V1
How young we were, and foolish too
For wisdom is the child of years
And from a depth of desolation
We promised that no matter what
We'd never cease from exploration

V2
The world spun webs around us both
Fiercely wound those silken threads
Each one kept our souls from soaring
And mundane matters forced a halt
And the end of our exploring

Chorus
Now on the craft we call our lives
The sails are straining to unfurl
And wild with innocence again
We'll swing the mighty ship around
To dare an unknown constellation
Plunging deep into the night
Led by a different lodestar's light

V3
For dear I am still in love with you
The only difference is how much
While left alone, it grew unguarded
Leaving no way to repossess
But to go to where we started

Bridge
In the memory that breaks my sleep at night
My hands are tangled in your hair
Your mouth is soft on mine
I ache to return to where we met
And know the place for the very first time

Chorus
Now on the craft we call our lives
The sails are straining to unfurl
And wild with innocence again
We'll swing the mighty ship around
To dare an unknown constellation
Plunging deep into the night
Led by a different lodestar's light

Chorus (shortened)
Wild with innocence again
We swing the mighty ship around
Plunging deep into the night
Led by a different lodestar's light

Absolutely brilliant work everyone, very well done.

Donna - a brilliant write this side of T S Eliot.

Billy - a wonderful, beautiful piece of music. Thank you for inviting me along.

Mark - you nailed the drums, it was a pleasure to listen the rhythm section.

George - you're evolving nicely, an excellent vocal, Genesis like.

One of my fav tracks for 2014.

Recently back from Canada, and just getting caught up. :)

Wonderful to hear this piece finished! What a glorious job everyone has done! I think it sounds sensational. :)
Billy, Andy, George, and Mark, thank you all so much for bringing this lyrical story to life. :)

(And thank you as well to the inimitable T.S. Eliot. ;) )

This is an amazing song guys and gal... Love it all.

... When I started listening to the initial chords, immediatly some lyrics crossed my mind  :D

The crawlers cover the floor
In the red ochre corridor
For my second sight of people
They've more life's blood than before
They're moving in time
To a heavy wooden door
Where the needle's eye is winking
Closing on the poor

"Carpet Crawlers" by Genesis, yes I can hear similar chords at the start.  The rest of the song of the song is fairly different though.

The album "Carpet Crawlers" from is "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" which was released in 1974. It's taking us at MCS 40 years to catch up! LOL!

Yes George is a completely diferente song, only those initial chords remind me of the Carpet Crawler still, are not the same chords.

I could imagine this in a musical..I like the way it completely changes halfway through...George could play the lead part in some epic sci-fi tale

Congrats everyone
