Title: Memories
Post by: catfish on February 09, 2016, 11:58:39 AM

THE PLAYERS:

ANdy (jedi) Gupha - Bassist
Henry (docmidnite) Mittnacht - Guitarist, Editor, Mixer & Producer
Al (catfish) Bacon - Writer/Vocals/Keys
Master - Blue Mountain - Nashville, Tn.

well, what to say, we've all been here before. nothing new about that.

so i must rave on about the work & idea's that Henry & Andy have contributed to make a meager idea, a real production.

ain't perfect, neverless, a very heartfelt performance.

i tell folks about my music, i'm still learning how to make decent tracks.

so really here, it is Henry's uncanny ability to take my mess, internalize, add to, edit, then mix.  Henry is the real hero in this trio..............  Henry, you the best!

enjoy,
Al...

Fantastic song, guys.

Al man, I'm feeling what your singing....back at you brother....you're the real deal. Given your age, that's a mammoth vocal performance.

The production is bang on and the mix has a sonic brilliance that really makes a difference.

I'm reminded of Bobby Womack, Joe Cocker and Delbert McClinton.

Enjoyed the listen.

Billy,

what a very huge compliment!....

i just opened my mouth, that's all, for when i had final lyrics, Henry's final mix to re-sing to, something greater took control. feelings, heart & message, all came together to bring voice from my soul. at least that is what i believe.

the Lyrics were, really, about a very special person, some 40+ years back.
& this song was for her, where ever she is now.... i meant every word!

we all have had that very special time in our lives. mine, i will never forget, no matter how long i live.

when i listened, some, today, i got teary eyed.
"Memories, all i have left" ... so sad... so real....for a lot of us old folks......

they say great tunes may only happen 1 time for a very select few. folks, call 'em 1 hit wonders.
this recording is destined to become my most cherished musical keepsake & my, personal, 1 hit wonder.

so thanks for the good words.

& thanks, again, to ANdy & Henry... u guys, the greatest!

Al...

Gentlemen,

Thank you for letting me in onto this truly special song. Love the peaceful easy feel :).

Al, I've said it before, and I will say it again, I could listen to you sing all day. You sing from the heart. And that old school Hammond and piano playing isn't too shabby either :).

Henry, you truly complement Al's musical vision to bring about top class productions. Your playing in this song is one of my fav Henry performances. That solo is beautiful in its economy with every note crying out with feeling. Not to forget the couple of guitar fills you play or that warm overdriven rhythm.

You two are the R&B/Blues version of the  "Glimmer Twins".

I am glad that you liked the bass part, I needed the 'coaching" lol.

This song is on heavy rotation in the house. The wife loves it too.

Oh and thank you blue mountains of Kentucky, erm I meant Nashville TN.

Andy

PS - Al, I insist on you collecting all your thoughts, rambles, reminiscences etc that accompany your posts on the every working folder. They would make awesome album notes!!!

Thanks for the compliment, I really appreciate this! :-*
Funny thing is: ALL guitars both left and right acoustic plus the electric were just meant as a demo. I played it quick in one pass and considered replaying if Al likes it. Even the solo was 1 take. I only doubled it... mainly for fun... but after starting to listen and mix I realised that all of it was sufficient and felt right ;D

So sweet  ;)...

... Reminds me of this, reminds me of that, reminds me of that other...

Overall reminds me a lote of my youth... The tone of a certain guitar reminds me of Dire Straits at some point of their career... - "Money for nothin' get your chicks for free"

The composition reminds me a lot of Bob Seger...

That flanger in the begining, very cool, reminds me a lot of the 70's when the invented the MXR blue unit  ;D... There's lots of songs from that era with a flanger in the master.

Nice sound, Henry.

love Al's soulful voice.
and Henry's guitar playing.
really the whole thing.
not a weak spot in the song.
there truly are some incredible musicians and songwriters here at mcs and this tune is just one more reminder of that fact.
