Title: Awesome VST and VSTi database
Post by: NickT on January 03, 2007, 05:24:53 PM
This database is great. One of the best collections of free VST and VSTi plugs I've seen.

Have fun!

I like the fish stuff.

And the bug stuff. :)

What's nice is that the links are all there in one place.

Is there a plugin that will make my singing sound like Luther Vandross?

Don't suppose there is one that turns my weak-ass guitar playing into super hot licks similar to Prince, huh??

I've dumped alot of dough into mics, guitars and effects...but none of them seem to help :(

LOL .. those last 2 are great plugins .. more people should use them ;)

The REAL trick of mixing, at least in my eyes, is to try and do it all with no fancy plugins at all.  A decent compressor and EQ, a handful of standard effects, and then MIX it ;) haha.  Seems to be becoming more and more of a lost art to get good tones without relying on the "xyz" plugin to get "that sound".

I guess I'm just oldschool, but I tend to spend a lot more time getting "that sound" at the mic level before it get's into my DAW :D

That's all fine and good. But what about those projects where you don't have any control over what is recorded?

Of course the turd polisher does come in handy...but we want to make what people are doing in there spare room studio's to sound as good as we can. So we use plugs. No real way around it.

I am sure you don't need the UAD and can make due with the eq and comps in DP... >:D

:D

You are right on that front Nick, but lucky for me 80% of what I mix here I also record myself hehe

i can make do without my UAD if I have to, the EQ's in DP are not too bad actually ;)  The comps ... well... maybe I am addicted to my LA2A plug *looks around with shifty eyes*

i have 4 plugs which I use.
Blueline compressor
Anwida reverb
Spitfish
Blueline delay

Oh sorry...five.  I use Autotune when needed.
I use the EQ in N-track.

If I had to strip down, those are the plugs I'd need to mix.

I still want to do the reaper challenge.

A complete mix with a free DAW and all free plugins.!

I may be willing to anti up a prize for that one! :)
