Good to get this one done.
I think the song sounds deceptively simple. It took a while to get all the parts nicely jelled together, but the wait was worth it.
Lovely performances from SmithC (vocals), Mark (playing off the unusual rhythm), and Henry, who captained the ship with his arrangement/production ideas, super guitars and solo, and with a first rate mix.
Billy's Rhodes and Tim's added guitar rounded off the sound nicely.
I really like the result, and in addition to the above highlights I love the backing vocals the guys have come up with, the refrain - "please please please" - very mesmeric.
Cheers
Andy
How Many Times (SmithC/Andy Gupta/Henry Mittnacht)
Intro: E F#m7 G#m7 A/E F#m7 G#m7
E F#m7 G#m7 A
So many times I've tried to make you understand
E F#m7 G#m7
And I'm trying to get through
E F#m7 G#m7 A
A thousand ways or maybe more I have planned
E F#m7 G#m7 C#m
But you keep losing your mind
C#m7 F#m7 G#m7 C#m7
Please--try to realize it's not easy
F#m7 G#m7 C#m7
It's something you need to think about
F#m7 G#m7 C#m7
It's within you to find the way out
F#m7 B
Leave your mind with no doubt
Hold on to thoughts that are always passing by
And the days we left behind
We'd been searching for something to fill our lives
Those times are never kind
Please--try to realize it's not easy
To open up and let things in
And to know that love is in our hearts
That's all what we need
G#7 C#m
How many times
F#m B
I'll say the words
G#7 C#m
You want to hear
B F#m F#m7/G#m7/C#m7/G#m7
Oh make you realize
---Solo-- (same chords as verse)
So many times I feel like I'm giving up
But something makes me wait awhile
We've been looking for something that we should know
It's just a state of mind
Please--try to realize it's not easy
You and I should work it out
And if we could get halfway there
Thats' what it's all about

I remember when Andy came up with this and I didn't like it at all... ;D
First I tried to change a lot of it but it just got worse and so I took the rather odd form and toyed with it...
Now I really like what we have here! A great MCS collaboration! :)

not sure why but i feel like I should be eating a vegemite sandwich.
or maybe i should run or maybe I should take cover.
something about this reminds me of men at work.
not really my taste but a great collab nonetheless.

Hey guys I finally got a chance to take some time and listen to this. I really enjoyed the listen. The guitars sound great, they have a raw / grungy enough sound to keep it from being too (for lack of a better term) produced. I agree with Mark on the Men at work, the vocals really do sound like their singer. With that being said the vocals however similar are still fantastic. The pitches and melodies sung are truly creative. great work guys!
