Title: Love Grows - three vocal versions
Post by: stoman on August 23, 2014, 04:20:26 AM
EDIT 2014-09-06: I replaced the files with new mixes.

The song actually needs real (or at least better) drums and a better arrangement and recording, but I want to finish it for now. It's been in the making too long, and I'm beginning to hate it. ;)

There are three versions. The mixes are basically identical (just minor differences), but we were so lucky to have three singers for it! :)

I tried to master each of the mixes at an overall dynamic range of roundabout 12 dB (according to the Tischmeyer DR Meter).

This really kicks in very nicely at verse two. Well done.  :)

Thanks, Errol! The midi drums still bug me - I did not want such a rough sound for the song. I'll probably develop a better approach when some time has passed. Right now I don't want to hear the song anymore.

But your voice suits it very well IMO. Nice and gentle.

Until the next song,
  Steffen

I added a new mix of Billy's version where I tried to create a softer overall sound. Very difficult material ...

James' version reminds me of a David Soul 70's record. It is a shame it doesn't have any real drums because I think it deserves them.

The piano part is really nice too.

Thanks, Mark!

David Soul sure isn't a bad reference! :)

I replaced the mixes in the first post with new ones. I changed the drums and tried to get at least a couple of the many problems under control. I think this is all I can do.

  Steffen

I enjoyed listening to all 3versions... The drums don't bother me at all and the piano is super great as the songwriting is!
There's one odd note in the sax solo ... Now THAT bothers me!!!!!!!!!

There are three versions. The mixes are basically identical (just minor differences), they were waiting to hear from the uber (http://www.losangelescaraccidentattorney.co/uberaccidentlawsuitlawyer.html) because that's how they got there and having seen the website, I know it will be professional, but we were so lucky to have three singers for it!

Thanks, folks!

@arininag17:
The basic melody was "composed" within a couple of minutes, as usual, but then it took quite a while (i.e. a couple of years) to get lyrics for it, then another year before the first vocal was done. And then I created the arrangement (strings), and both guitars and sax were added.

I'm not really satisfied with the arrangement though. I'd like to redo it completely one day, but I'm out of the loop for a while (chronic health issues) and cannot (and don't want to) do any music.

@Mimmo:
Thanks, but the sound actually is no problem at all (I have more drum libraries and sounds than I could ever use, btw. :) ) - it's the lack of human feel. A song like this definitely needs real drums (i.e. played by a human drummer).

Regards,
  Steffen
