I was thrilled when AndyG. presented me with his unique idea for this song a few weeks ago. A lot of work has gone into the finished product, with everything coming together quickly and well. What a blend of musical talent! :D
John, you've made a most impressive MCS collab debut with your vocals on this one. Great job!
AndyD, thanks so much for your riveting guitar contributions.
Paulo, a big thanks too for your superb keys and synth solo, and for the masterful mastering.
AndyG, again a huge thanks for the musical vision. It's always a pleasure to work with you. :)

Show Your Face
(v1)
Too much stress, too little rest
Making us dysfunctional today
Maybe it's a curse as we wait for the worst
While sanity slips away
Welcome to century twenty-one
Who knows what went wrong
Flower Power replaced by guns
When we turned our backs so long
Chorus
If anybody's out there
Come on out and show your face
Call off this mindless marathon
Or we'll lose the human race
If anybody's out there
Come on out and show your face
Please rearrange the panorama
Stop the deadly psychodrama yeah
(v2)
With a pace this fast, we can't last
Feels like it's already Hell
Hopes and dreams spill through the seams
Hear the tolling of the bell?
Effexor, Zoloft, needles and pills
Crime scenes everywhere
Booze and drugs, a life that kills
Violence poisons the air
Chorus
If anybody's out there
Come on out and show your face
Call off this mindless marathon
Or we'll lose the human race
If anybody's out there
Come on out and show your face
Please rearrange the panorama
Stop the deadly psychotdrama
Bridge
If it's not over soon
We'll colonise the moon
Our spacecraft and our freighters and our probes
Will all fill those ancient craters
With the sad debris of men
Who'll destroy themselves again
Chorus
If anybody's out there
Come on out and show your face
Call off this mindless marathon
Or we'll lose the human race
If anybody's out there
Come on out and show your face
Please rearrange the panorama
Stop the deadly psychodrama
C'mon and show your face
C'mon and show your face
C'mon and show your face

Donna,
Thank you - it was a pleasure to work with the wonderful lyrics penned by you and Sam. I am glad you feel we did justice to them.
I had wonderful music collaborators to work with as well - AndyD, Paulo and John. Marvellous cooperation and spirit. Ripping solos by Andy and Paulo, and a very strong vocal from John.
Paulo, a super job on the mix. You captured the feel I was looking for perfectly.
You guys and gal rock1
Cheers
Andy

Here's the ape.
And now my damn thoughts about this tune... Gosh, the more I collaborate, the more I like, there's a wide range of styles that one can cover.
A song like this one, would never come from me because I don't belong to this kind of music still, I think it is just fine and afterall it's all about playing and nothing else.
When AndyG asked me to add some keys, I tell ya that I got frightened just because my school is so different.
But, yeh, I think I like, it's only Rock'n'Roll ;D
Much thanks for letting this old fart get in this ;)
-
yey - I was dancing round the kitchen when I heard the initial bed for this one .... thanks for the opportunity to work on it ... had a blast :D
-
You boys and girls done good!! I love this song.. reminds me a bit of Jeff Lynne. The vocalist was perfect for this and the mix turned out really well. And I could hear that synth solo and KNOW it's Paulo. :) Kudos folks!

J,
Thanks for the kind comments, I am glad you loved it!
Your ELO ref was quite on the mark, I was aiming at an early 80s british synth/guitar proggy kind of sound (Asia/Genesis).
John nailed the vox perfectly and Paulo was just...well Paulo :)
Cheers
Andy

Thanks j... Much appreciated ;D

Paulo, it's all about pushing one's boundaries. ;) I never thought I'd find myself writing death-metal and techno rock. Basically I'm more a Joni Mitchell and Rachmaninoff kind of gal. ;D
When Andy first approached me with the musical idea, I said something along the lines of "This is so far off my usual radar...But I love it!" ;D
Gentlemen, I repeat: You all did a sensational job on this. :)
J, thank you. :)
Guys, here are a couple of comments that have been made.

Donna

very cool ... gotta drag out my old bell bottoms now ...
Great job, Dan
---------------------------------------------------------------
Awesome! I knew I was gonna love this the second I heard the music start. Chaos and Mayhem!
Plus, I'm a sucker for songs about mankind running amok!
Sweet! Scott
--------------------------------------------------------------
Kind of a techno-rock 80's tune. At least that was my first impression. Very cool. This will definitely get a repeat listen. Rick
--------------------------------------------------------------
That was the cat. I was scratching for - Techno.
Came back to congratulate the cool mix of Theme Song, Psychedelia and Techno styles If we're doomed for a perilous journey.. I wanna go down with a sweet sound track playin' in the back ground. I vote too add this to the list. Randy

Hi Donna/Sam/Andy et al.
I really enjoyed this. I loved the production on it... sounds like it could be a real grower.

When Andy first approached me with the musical idea, I said something along the lines of "This is so far off my usual radar...But I love it!" ;D
Donna..we also discussed thus:
"you will notice the keyboard figure which would sound mesmeric, urgent, frantic or annoying depending on the weather"..
Thrilled to read the reviews...I am glad people like the song.
Cheers

Hi Donna & Sam & Andy, etc.,
"Call off this mindless marathon
Or we'll lose the human race"
Very astute! Intelligent lyrics, driving music and fine production, just the combo this needs to send the message. Well done. Ricki
----------------------------------------
This isn't my genre, no offense, BUT in its genre, in its own right, it is very good. Lyrics are masterful and melody works for this type of song. Good job Donna and Sam and Andy and everyone!! Lynn

This is right up my alley! RAWK ON!!! LOVED IT!!! Polly

I like a good rocker as much as anybody. This is a pretty good one IMHO.

Hey Mark,
Thanks - appreciate that comment. I was trying to achieve a more "danceable" with the synth figure, and the simple bass and drums track running throughout. I guess it made a change from my usual plodding style :)

Hi Donna,
You might as well link this to the remade version with REAL drums :)

I think we need that asteroid....
2 million years on this earth....and for what?
To live in fear and pain?
-
I'm with you 100%, Andy.
We've screwed things up here so badly one way or another. We don't deserve this - what was once - a gorgeous planet.
The earth goddess, Gaia, must be weeping oceans...
-
I hear you Donna, though I am more concerned with the socio and political aspects.....and man's cruelty to fellow men and animals.
We never learn, do we, and history repeats itself.
I am equally fed out up with conservativeness (morphs into right wing) and ultra-liberalness (morphs into kookiness). Where is the balance? Where are the genuine leaders of men and women?
I know that fossil fuels need to be phased out, but in a responsible and logical way. We can't just turn off the tap tomorrow. In the meanwhile manage it so minimize emissions.
We have had celebrities like James Cameron, DI Caprio and Jane Fonda flying over the Canadian oilsands in their lush chartered planes or helicoptors (there are not solar powered are they??) and bashing Canada for producing dirty oil.
And yet so called liberal provinces and countries buy oil from rogue nations from the middle east and Africa!!!
Quebec dumps their waste into the Saint Lawrence River but that doesn't prevent them from sniping at Alberta.
Just using Canada as an example :)
SO how does this all add up?
We need that asteroid!
Andy

Again, I'm with you, Andy. :) My comment - 'We've screwed things up here so badly one way or another' - was intended to cover everything you mention. The environment impact is of course just one segment of it. Sadly.
-
Hi Donna,
Yes, of course :). It was good to get than rant off my chest, keeping in mind MCS normally steers clear of politics and stuff like that :)
Show Your Face :).
