Still Running
(c)2013 Casia
Casia - Lyrics
Tim Adams - Composition, keys
Staffan Karlsson - Vocals
Mike Marnul - Drums
Jeff Chaplan - Rhythm Guitar
Mark Henebury - Electric Guitar
Billy LeCoq Mauvais - Bass/mix/master
(Intro)
I can't make out
The road I'm running down
The carousel is spinning
Round and round
(V1)
Going nowhere
Running circles in my head
Scribbling out my attitude
From ev'ry worn out bed
(Chorus)
I miss the sunrise
I miss you at my side
I miss the blue skies
I miss all your lies
But I'm afraid it's not enough
So I keep running ..STILL RUNNING
I keep on running...STILL RUNNING
I keep on running
Running
(V2)
I'm running faster
Than the speed of light
There will never be another
To get me through the night
(V3)
And I just can't stand still
Ill have to take another pill
There's no one who can help me
Not even Dr. Phil
(Chorus)
I miss the sunrise
I miss you at my side
I miss the blue skies
I miss all your lies
But I'm afraid it's not enough
So I keep running
I keep on running...and STILL RUNNING
I keep on running round and round
Round and round and round and round and round
And round and round
(SOLO)
Running keep on running
I keep on running
I keep on running
Ooooooo
I keep on running
Keep on running

Hi Neil:
Glad you like. I don't expect people to listen. I post them here mostly for my own files so I can easily find them later if I want them. Comments are always appreciated.
Casia :)
-
I do listen to all the tunes you post, Cas! Unless I miss one, of course. It's a shame that most people don't listen at all, or, if they do, just grab the tracks they like without leaving a comment. But that's just the way it is.
This is a nice work, very well put together. And a nice mix too.
Regards,
Steffen

i too try take a moment and listen to all finished projects.
sometimes i get behind.
but this is a very nice tune with great production.
great performances.
love that powerful bass & the guitar tone & the overall ambiance of the song.

Thanks guys, I do appreciate the comments, very much. Sometimes you listen to a song so much and get so close to it, you really don't know if it's any good any more!!
I need to do more myself about listening and commenting on finished songs. I just finished school last friday so should have a bit more time while I get a full time job committed to.
Casia :)

I can think of times when I have listened and left a comment, and not getting a reply from the person who posted it. So thats the other side of the coin.
I make it a point to reply to every comment I get, as I am grateful if someone listens and praises the song Im involved with.
Some people may download the song but not comment for fear of hurting the posters feelings. I have had occasions where I had 4 comments but about 30 downloads ;D.
A collaboration site involves dealing with people and therefore the social aspect cannot be avoided. Tools like networking, discussions, comments, introductions help.
A relative stranger posting a collab or finished song is less likely to get input than some one who makes an effort to get to know the members on the site and keeps up contact with fellow collaborators.
Just like real life.

You are right, Andy - and that's one thing that REALLY bugs me A LOT! Why can't people be kind and honest at the same time? I HATE hypocrisy. When I ask for comments and opinions I want exactly that. Who says I have to agree? But at least I want to hear what people REALLY think. Or why would I bother asking?
If my songs are received well, great! I really love that. But I can't stand it when people tell me everything is great, when I KNOW it isn't. I'd rather they tell me what they think could be improved.
So, good folks, don't be afraid to tell (AT LEAST) me your thoughts! I do know what the word OPINION means, and I certainly do not take them for undeniable facts.
Sorry, Cas, for high-jacking your post.
Regards,
Steffen

well said Andy.
i agree with responding back to those who comment.
hopefully I've not neglected that on my finished tunes.
i am easily side tracked.
and Steffen...i find it difficult to give criticism to a finished song for a variety of reasons.
i try to reserve critical assessments for the studio A while the song is still developing. criticizing in the finished forum seems too little too late.
that's why i also like to listen as much as possible even to songs I'm not playing on so i can lend an ear that's not emotionally attached to a performance or mix.
in the finished forum i sometimes just like to give a simple nice job because sometimes songs just aren't my thing but are still good.
if i don't leave a comment it's likely because i have found some sort of fault that as i said earlier is too little too late on constructive criticism.
i am very obvious when i love a tune.
well...that's my 3 pennies worth...
thanks...

I have to disagree about the "too little too late", Mark. While you most likely would not change the finished song, it would always be valuable input for the next song you work at.
And, as for myself: I remix my old songs every now and then, and it ALWAYS helps to know what people REALLY thought about the previous version.
If we only give kudos to the folks whose songs we comment, we need not comment them at all. That's useless, because it means nothing. How can the artist improve if he does not get honest feedback?
It's very different to get feedback at the production stage than after a song has been finished, btw! While you are working on the song, you are much more biased and may not want to accept criticism, albeit constructive and right. You just can't hear it, so it must be wrong (psychological thing - we can't fight that). When a song is done and you are working on other stuff, you might have a more objective view on the finished song and listen better to what other people have to say.

Steffen

thanks Steffen...that does give me a different perspective.
I'll need to work on getting over some hang ups.
and Casia...sorry for contributing to the hijacking of this thread. :-[
-
Hey Casia my dear,
how are you? I really like this song, great performances! Who played the bass? Nice bass sound!
The mix is excellent.
Casia is part of MCS folks :-). Regarding feedback and criticism I have to agree with Steffen! Honest feedback is always helpful, finished work or work in progress. Who needs platitudes???
But Steffen I think it is a matter of culture. Other nations have other behaviour ;) We Germans are always rough and direct. Other nations people perceive us as unkind and harsh. My daughters boyfriend is an Irishman and that's what he always tell her ;D.
cheers

Holger is correct to a degree.
here in the states i think you'll find an array of attitudes of such.
myself...i am the eternal optimist.
i always try to find the good in everything; especially the creative and while i may disagree with the direction of things but that doesn't make it bad...i just may have a different preference.
there's a part of me that sees criticizing the end product as telling someone they have an ugly baby. it's something i obviously need to get over if i hope to be a more constructive contributor to the site.
most of the time i am in awe of the talent here and feel somewhat inferior and out of place giving criticism because i don't think i could do any better.
-
I feel pretty much the same as you, Mark. Especially regarding the "feeling inferior" aspect (which I'm surprised to hear from a guy with your skills).
However, I firmly believe that accepting criticism only from those who "can do better" is pure nonsense. Especially when it comes to music (or art in general), the untrained listeners are those who often give the most valuable feedback. The ownly drawback is that they often don't know how to explain it because they have not learned the specific terminology that we are used to.
And, seriously: Why would I post a song anywhere, if I did not want to get honest opinions? HOW and WHERE else could I get those opinions?
Regards,
Steffen
-
Im amazed that you, Steffen, and Mark feel inferior :o, you're up with the best.
It's nice to be supremely talented of course like a virtuoso, but even with average skills a lot of good music can be made, with other's contributions. You only have to look at me lol.
Criticism is good, but it must be constructive. There;s not much value is saying "this song sucks'. Tell the originator why do you think it sucks and how you think it can be improved upon.
Steffen is right - its good to get opinion from "the man in the street". I often play my songs to my better half and get pretty good feedback from the laymans perspective. No she is not a big fan of my music/playing sadly :).
Sorry Cass for hijacking your thread, but since youre not on here that much maybe you wouldnt mind or notice!!
Good song btw, solid lyric!!
Andy

i totally agree Andy.
if i don't have anything of value to add like a tip or suggestion to help improve it criticism seems pointless.
sometimes I'm not sure what's wrong or as Steffen said i don't know how to explain it.
and sadly my wife isn't a big fan of my music either - she likes more r&b or Michael Buble type stuff.
but i can usually count on brutal honesty from her - and i can tell when she's trying to sugar coat it...she's not a good liar.
-
;D welcome to the club then :)
i totally agree Andy.

LOL! Really, I did peak in yesterday. I wish I had more time for music as most of us do but guess we have to set our priorities. I don't mind the hijacking and yes Andy I don't come here as often as I should because it seems there aren't too many people to collab with these days!! Not like the good 'ol days for some reason. But, it's probably just me.
I do agree with the point that many people don't respect your opinion too much if they don't think you are an authority. When I sometimes comment with my opinion, I have frequently gotten the cold shoulder, I won't say necessarily here, but yes here too, in the form of no response or my post completely overlooked. I may not know much about the instrumental parts but I do have an opionion on whether I like it or not as the "audience". I therefore, don't comment much any more, but I do listen as much as I can. Therefore, if I don't comment, I don't expect comments back.
Regarding Steffen's comment about the mix .... it's never done ... and Steffen is proof of that hahaha! So, anytime a comment is warranted, it shouldn't matter what stage it is at, it can always be better. It's more a matter of what you can live with. And, that goes for the lyric too. There are many times I would have liked to edit the words after the fact, but darn if the singer wants to sing again once they've moved onto another project. I think it's easier to remix than re-create.
@Mark, not sure why you guys have wife's who don't like your music but it seems to be a common theme, didn't you play for them while you were dating :):)
Cheers all and thanks for the comments and the dialogue.
Thanks a bunch Holger, I haven't seen you around much either :)

i think with the case of my wife is that her taste has changed a bit over the years.
yeah she used to come watch me play in bands but there was a point when that stopped being fun for her.
today she primarily listens to christian radio (k-love) but from her childhood that 70s singer songwriter stuff, disco, and r&b still delights her. plus she likes that Buble guy.
not a fan of the hard rock stuff much anymore.
she's mellowed out quite a bit as she's gotten older and since she is older than me i tell her she's my ol' lady :D
-
Thanks for the insight Mark :). I guess my tastes have change a lot too. I never used to like Jazz and now I like it a lot. But ... there is something about rock that inspires me to write like no other style. It has to do with the unique ability to get out my anger and frustration. IMO, it's the most emotional form of music, at least to me, probably because that's what I grew up listening to.
In order for me to write Jazz, I have to listen to rock and then tame it (with my whip hahah)!!!
Cheers ... Casia

Hi Mark:
Thanks for asking about the bass, I didn't realize I missed putting it down. The guy who mixed and mastered the song did the bass as well. This is an off-site song.

LOL, thanks CD, glad you got something out of it. Think I had a "running" theme in some of my songs. Hmmm, what was I running from?
