Title: Sweet Agony
Post by: rightonthemark on August 19, 2013, 07:39:20 PM
Sweet Agony

I've gotten older
and my mind plays games
where there once was ice
(but) now I see flames

anyway --- it's okay
I see flashes of you
everyday --- I'm afraid
once they start to fad

when it comes down to you
I'm a little confused
was I using you
or was I being used

anyway --- it's okay
'cause you're so sweet
everyday --- I'm afraid
of the agony

I'll be a slave to the games of my mind
bound up together with the ties that bind
longing for the sweetness I left behind
sweet agony

looking over at you
I see your piercing eyes
once again I get confused
between the truth and your lies

anyway --- it's okay
I see flashes of you
everyday --- I'm afraid
once they start to fade

I'll be a slave to the games of my mind
bound up together with the ties that bind
longing for the sweetness I left behind
sweet agony

it doesn't matter
I am numb to the pain
always thinking of you
over and over again

anyway --- it's okay
'cause you're so sweet
everyday --- I'm afraid
of the agony

I'll be a slave to the games of my mind
bound up together with the ties that bind
longing for the sweetness I left behind
sweet agony

Paul Dempsey (PVD) - lyrics
Andy Gupta (AndyG6508) - bass
Steve (Albino) - drums
Mark Shrider (rightonthemark) - music, guitar, vox, mix

thanks Paul for great lyrical stories & pictures (sorry i always seem to rewrite to make it fit my vox).
thanks Andy for the bottom end & your general input.
thanks Steve for clean drum seps & a killer performance to bring this tune home.

it's been a pleasure working with each of you & getting another tune completed.

Mark, Andy, Steve:

This is excellent, very catchy.

Mark, don't worry about changes to my lyric.  I always feel the singer and melody person needs it to feel right too.  As long as the intent never changes, I have no problem.
Please continue.

Paul

Thanks Paul and thanks to Mark for letting me play on this killer rock tune. It brought me right back to my early days and  the reason I picked up a pair of sticks in the first place.
Really good guitar work, pure rock.
Great to be working with you again Andy, a nice fat bass sound  8)

Good to get this one done guys. This rocks nicely.

Mark - great composition and guitars, the solo is killer
Steve - your drums gave the song the sonic lift it needed.
Paul - quality lyric as always.

Thanks for inviting me along Mark.

Cheers
Andy

glad you approve Andy.
i gave it a high cut; boost the low & low/mids; compressor & chorus.
i tried to make it sound like your original audition.

thanks for your kind words Zax.
i started the guitar sound out as an attempt to combine a classic metal sound with a modern metal sound but had to back off so as not to compete with the bass for bottom end.
i ended up with a nice metal/chorus ala judas priest (you got another thing coming) mixed with a more dry straight forward classic crunch. it just felt right.

Steve, the pleasure was all mine. and if you like this hard rock/classic metal type stuff there's plenty more where that came from. \m/

glad you like how your lyrics were used --- they helped bring this tune to life

Good Rock track guys, nice performances.

Mix sounds good , I could have used a little more 'dirt' for the style but I enjoyed it all the same  :)

That's a cool rocker, Mark, I really enjoyed the listen.

The mix is pretty good too. The chorus vocals may need some tweaking with Melodyne. Otherwise a really nice job IMO.

  Steffen
