This is what a guy said on cakewalk about the LA-2ME
ORIGINAL: Billy Buck

I imagine he's waiting to see if UA complain.

You think UA would have a problem with that? (http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/sign/sign0078.gif)
Since the developer is not offering his plugins for sale (basicallly freebies) and does not make any claims that his plugin is an "authentic" emulation of the original I don't think UA should be too concerned about it. I did a few side by side comparisons between the UAD-1 LA-2A & the Antress LA-2ME plugins and besides the obvious similarities in the GUI & plugin names there is not much else in common. The The LA-2ME acts and behaves, especially the Gain & Peak Reduction
controls, quite differently than the real hardware and the UAD-1 LA-2A plugin that faithfully emulates it. I think Antress missed the part about component modeling of the LA-2A's unique T4 cell which is heart and soul of the LA-2A sound. [;)]The LA-2ME sounds more aggressive and grainy when pushed. Not saying that it is a bad plugin, but that it is not a "clone" of a real LA-2A or the UAD-1 plugin version, even though it may look like one.
Just one example, on the LA-2A (hardware or UAD-1 plugin version), turn the gain knob down to "0" you will not hear any audio coming through, even though the actual track fader is set @ 0.00dB and your source audio track is playing. This is normal LA-2A behavior. But on the LA-2ME the audio still passes through @ "0" "Gain" setting, at whatever you have your track fader volume set to. It is just kinda weird if you are used to using an actual LA-2A (hardware or UAD-1 plugin). I am not slamming the LA-2ME, but just want to be clear for those that have not used an LA-2A that they are indeed different, in how they behave and sound
Having said that, I really do like his Analoger plugin, especially in Hi-Res mode. In Hi-Res mode it upsamples
to 2x your project sample rate. So in a 44K SONAR project it will upsample to 88k. I like putting the Input & Level controls @ about 10 o'clock, Color @ a tad over "0" with the Hi-Res enabled for a little subtle analog warmth. NICE! [:)]

So I shouldn't ditch my UAD-1 card just yet ;) hehe. Still look like great plugins, and best of all they are free :)

Anyone heard about the UAD Xpander, which will bring the UAD plugins to the Mac PowerBook laptop - I think the web site says "coming soon", but I couldn't find a lot of other information about it.

I like them. Some of the newer eq's and modules are interesting.
