Title: XP 64 & SONAR 6.0
Post by: groverk on April 10, 2007, 06:43:53 AM
I just bought Sonar Producer 6.

I was wondering if there is a big difference in running it at 64 bit.

I have a Athlon 4200 dual core.

3 gigs of memory.

And 2 sata drives.

Any advice ?

Thanks,

Ken

Sonar Producer 6 is a 64 bit application, Ken - so the spec you gave is more than able to do the job. Should have no problems whatsoever. Some 32 bit apps could be a bit glitchy on that box though (but that's a different story  >:D).

I hear it runs great at 64. I run 32 xp...but try it!

some plugs might give you a problem. But everything in Sonar will run.

Just installed it in 32 XP,

All the stores only stock Vista 64 now but M-Audio does'nt have the drivers for Vista yet.

I guess I'll have to wait a little while.

On the other hand I'm not sure if I'm all that impressed with it.
I've only spent about 2 hours on it but it seems I'm getting alot of noise with it. Some popping and crackling. I'll dig into it more tonight.

Thanks for your input guys.

Ken, I don't know if you've done the 64 bit install ? If you have, was there a difference when you tried the 32 bit install (i.e., is that when the "noise" was noticed ?) If you've not done the 64 bit install, it may be worth a try just to see if the "noise" (or any other problems you noticed) goes away. This is the kind of thing I was hinting at when you use a 64 bit designed box with 32 bit apps.

I'd hazard a guess that if the 32 bit install was done on a 32 bit box there wouldn't be any glitches ? Let us know how you get on with this  :)

Rab,

Nope. I haven't done the 64 bit install yet. M-Audio ( I have 2 Delta 1010 lt's )does not have the drivers for Vista yet and nobody is stocking XP 64 since Vista came out. So I had to use my XP Pro 32 bit. I reformatted my hard drive to get rid of any traces of trial programs so it was a clean install.

Pro-Tools Le  ( What I've been using ) doesn't have all the bells and whistle's but it's very stable.

I haven't given up yet though. Maybe it just needs some tweaking.

I'll keep you posted.

BTW, the test tones you sent me worked great. Thanks again for that.

You're welcome, Ken.  Any time you need stuff like this, gimme a shout  :)

Yep, looks like a few days tweaking will be the ideal way to ruin your weekend.. LOL
These things can really grind ya down at times. Can you get an ASIO driver and perhaps try recording AIFF ? -- Just guessing again, but best of luck with your endeavours and I wish you every success. Again, let us know how you get on with this.... it's an interesting one for sure.
