Title: That 70s Funk
Post by: BassPlayer on May 22, 2006, 12:36:29 AM
Yes it's finally finished or at least fairly close to being done. I might have Nick take another spin on it. Still deciding. Love to hear what you guys say about the mix and mastering.

I wrote up a little page that has all the background on the project, who played on it and an MP3 of the original idea with R4M kicking ass on it. You can play both files there.

That 70's Funk (http://www.angmar.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=PostWrap&file=index&page=/music/that_70s_funk.html)

I also would like to point out that I'm really proud of what everyone accomplished here. The level of musicainship was top notch! Well done people!

Project members. Once I settle on a final master I'll PM you a link to pickup your copy of the file.

Yea I would really like the big Steve Gadd sounding toms but I'm happy with the way they are.  I dig Kens playing most of all.

I enjoyed working on this. Dave also sent me alll the source files. I had a great time mixing.

My interpretation was a bit different from Daves... >:D

Nice job to all those involved and nice mix Dave!

Wow, very very nice tune, great jam so far, here are some humble comments:

- I hear some midi/sample tracks although the lineup shows all live players ??

- At times the organ sounded too busy during the guitar solos, might want to "bring it down" while the soloists are doing their thing to better feature them...

Otherwise very enjoyable, wouldn't mind throwing in a synth or organ solo if there is still an opening for that !  ;)  Or maybe a duo with one of the guitarists would be neat (guitar v.s. keys ?)...

Thanks for the compliments. It was the players that really made the tune.  It definitely was a learning process though. Nick was really patient and did not say a word about my n00b mixing skillz when he mastered it.

AzureCrystal:
To the best of my knowledge all parts were performed live. Thanks for the offer to add to it, thats the real compliment, but I'd rather leave it as is and do some new stuff! I have much more where that came from. Things are settling in now after the our recent move accross country.  I'll have a lot more tunes comming down the pipe soon. Feel free to jump in.
