That was my first audition and AJ didn't like it - he prefered my second attempt. As the writer of the song I believe that is his right :)

AJ - to be brutally honest I don't think this song is up to the standard of your other material. It turned out ok but your other stuff is great. I guess you set the bar too high for yourself ;D Of course it's still better than anything I ever wrote.

Honesty is always best Dave. It's my least favorite as well. Maybe I'm just not a rock guy. Do you think the song is just too weak, or just needs something more?

I don't see this song as being weaker than the others, different, but not inferior. I like it a lot! I don't see it as missing anything. But. In the case that anyone wants to continue on later, I'll post a new sep without the pops, I like the beginning better on my latest take. .. you never know.. months down the road it might come to you.. and you'll find the missing piece..

I think everyone did a good job here.  :)

Hey AJ

It's always good to get more songs finished and move on to the next project.

I think Davidinoz has a fair point and that's why this one was a bit of struggle compared to some of your other songs which seem to be completed quite naturally.

But Hey ! - It's good to step outside your comfort zone once in a while and it came out pretty decent in the end after everyone jumped in.  I still prefer it to alot of other stuff I've heard.

Really looking forward to your next one ' Out in the cold ' ..from what I hear so far I think that one plays to your strengths far more.

Keep up the good work.  :)

I don't think the song is weak. If a newby to songwriting had put it up I probably would have said good job. Your past material is of such a high standard this one just disappointed me a little.
As for needing something more, it has developed a lot from the first demo but to my ears it just doesn't grab me like your other stuff does.
Of course all the above is just the opinion of an old fart who never wrote a good song in his life ;D

Good insight guys. The great thing about this place is the learning experience.  I've never played in a band and have never attempted songwriting until about a year before I joined this site. Its been a great experience and I look forward to the future here. The only way I know to grow as a writer and player is to try new things for better or worse. My only regret is that I may never have the opportunity to meet some of the great people I've had the pleasure to work with.

Btw Dave, I'm older than you, so....

Not as "catchy" of a tune as some of AJ's others..... Nice fat mix that Nick did though for sure.....

Look on the bright side though guys..... at least we took the train instead of jumping from "26 Stories High" ;D ;)

Nice tune gang. Boy you guys are critical.  ;D Maybe you heard it too much. I quite enjoyed it. Listened quite a few times. The one main thing I would do differently is maybe change up the guitars a bit. Have the mufflled guitar as intros to verses/choruses but then change tones into something a little more edgey. I love that muffled tone. Sounds like there's a second distorted guitar if I'm correct on the left side? I don't know if that tone works all that well.  ??? That's just looking for something. Other than that I really like the vibe of this song. It's really upbeat.  8)

Dave

PS. Don't stop trying to make tunes like this. I dig it.  :)

Thanks Dave,

Some good ideas. Another thought I had was to reconsider the funkier bass line that Davidinoz did with a less distorted guitar tone as an alternative starting point and play from there. Then maybe consider your ideas of varying the guitars a bit. Or, I can can just let things be........not!

Thanks Nick,

Aside from all the banter on this thread, I never did mention how great the mix was!
Thanks for taking the time.

Damn,

This is probably better than anything I've ever written or produced and you guys are apologizing to each other?

Hey AJ, I've not been real active in the last few months so I don't have the body of your work to compare this to, but I think this tune is killer and you'll make me carefully consider what project of mine I post next.

Hey Preston,

Thanks for the positive feedback. I lose perspective sometimes. Besides, its all davidinoz's fault. :D

I'm in with what jaaman said :) didn't mean to sound so critical... all your stuff is great AJ...  8) meant more as self criticism if anything....  :)

Rough crowd!  ;)

I like the tune. It's different. I also like what everyone did.

Nice job and thanks for letting me mix!
