Title: Moving On
Post by: doglo on March 13, 2008, 07:58:57 PM
I am pleased to announce we have finished "Moving On".

I started this song with a West African guitar sound in mind (birth place of the blues, some say).  We put this to a Bossa Nova beat, and AliKat was able to pull a melody out of it and write some lyrics that fit the feel of the song.  Many thanks to those who auditioned and participated on this song.

Below is the link, Credits, and Lyrics.  If any of you guys want your full names here, let me know and I will edit this.

Moving On
(c) 2007 Brad Denney (Doglo) and Allison (AliKat)

Guitars:  Doglo
Vocals: AliKat
Drums: Stickz
Bass:  Kenny B

Mix & Production: Doglo

Lyrics:

Verse 1
Same ol' city where I've lived
With the same ol' job, and same motive
Nothing has changed in 20 years
Same ol' rusty car with missin' gears

Chorus
I'm moving on
But I don't really know to where
I'm heading out of town
Trying to see what else there is out there
My tank is dry
Got a fifty dollars to my name
But I'm moving on
Cause I really got to get away

Bridge
Got the window, down to dry my tears
and this road will lead me somewhere
I know

Verse 2
I never really lived quite for myself
Always put my own dreams on the shelf
I needed time to put my life at ease
So, I packed a bag and grabbed my keys
And now

(Chorus + Bridge)

(Repeat Verse 1 + Chorus + Bridge)

Hey Brad, seems to be a problem with the link?  I get the error page each time I try it.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Glide,
I play a Yamaha SA2100 in this tune which is like a Gibson ES-335 with ribbon wound strings.
That goes into a PodXT pro, but I really just use a dry line out on that and use the A/D converters on my Emu-1212m PCI card to go to the computer.

I've finally come to the conclusion (after hearing people say it here and elsewhere and trying it myself) that the best bet to get good sound is to record dry.  Then I can use Amplitube or a digital send/return to/from my Pod XT pro to get a good sound.  I usually set the PodXT to a sound similar to what I'm going after when I record so I can monitor myself with that sound because how you hear yourself when you are playing influences how you play to some extent I think.  But the line out is dry and goes to the computer.

In this song I use Amplitube to get a classic clean tube sound.  Also there is some reverb and then a little chorus.
