Title: There's Just No Way To Know
Post by: Studioplayer on December 05, 2008, 01:17:52 PM
Finally have this one completed and a long time coming. Sorry Todd!!  I really love this song and the story Todd creates. I always dig his words!!  8) It took a while because I never felt I was doing it justice and getting it the best I could. Matter of fact I'm actually working on a second version of this now that I have some better equipment.  I think this came out pretty good though with a lot of help from Cosmic Dolphin on the mixing end. He really helped bring this song together. Sounds great now. Thanks guys.  :)

Todd, I always love your singing. We must do more down the road. An ape master is posted as well. I'll get the seps to you.

I quit high school it was just too dull for me
Joined the Marines to try to be all that I could be
They dropped us on a fiery beach on the Northern coast of France
I tell you most of the fellas there they never had a chance
We all make our choices and that's the way it goes
How they turn out in the end there's just no way to know

When I was young I lost a love because she didn't like my act
Although I tried and tried that woman never took me back
Happened to see her walking home just the other day
Just another of life's treasures that Id' let slip away
We all make our choices and that's the way it goes
How they turn out in the end there's just no way to know

Sometimes I swear I'm afraid of me
I look in the mirror and don't know what it is I see
I don't know what I see

-

Sometimes I swear I'm afraid of me
I look in the mirror and don't know what it is I see
I don't know what I see

I had to leave my wife and home about 3 years ago
She told me I'd become a man she didn't want to know
Now I'm living if you call it that in this dirty hotel room
Sometimes I can almost stand it other times it's like a tomb
We all make our choices and that's the way it goes
How they turn out in the end there's just no way to know

I watched my life go by with a bottle in my hand
Always somebody else's fault that I couldn't find a way to stand
I'm old and tired now and I'm about ready to quit
Turn the page on this dime store tale and make an end of it
We all make our choices and that's the way it goes
How they turn out in the end there's just no way to know

We all make our choices and that's the way it goes
How they turn out in the end there's just no way to know

Yes, this is the perfect vehicle for Todds bluesy no nonsense vocal approach. Good instrument choices Dave and a careful mix all add up to a fine song.

Thanks guys. I think I'd like to try a simplier version of this. It may have been overcooked. Still turned out well. :)

This is a good song with a good story. However, the last two lines of each verse are sort of the chorus to the song and they don't stand out. They kind of get lost. Can you bring them out more by tweaking the melody or adding some harmonies there? If you can highlight the refrain, I think you will turn a good song into an excellent one.
