Hi everyone, sneaking in the latest from the Cool Beyond Zero bunch (formerly Sewer Pipe Boyz) before the deadline is up on the CD nominations.
The boys blasted this one out in record time..and she's rockin' really hard on this one >:D, and I'm really proud how well everyone did on it. I wrote it back in October, it's an autobiographically based tune dealing with some issues I'm dealing with. This is my first attempt at a mix to post, probably will tweak as the comments roll in on it..big learning curve on this stuff! ;D
Anyway, hope it does get a couple votes, thanks in advance! :)
Marc

Goodbye (Traynor 2008)
Pleasuredome:vocals/guitars
J (formerly Jaaman): Keyboards
Thunder (formerly Moseskane):drums/percussion
Canuk62: Bass/Acoustic guitar
The doctors gave the word today, better soon plan for the ending as it's not far away,
The tests have all but sealed your fate, only God-given miracles can take it away,
In this life we have the path we need need to roam,
Where it ends is in God's hands, mere men will never know,
But it's hard to tell your kids you'll go away,
And it's even harder when you'll have to say
Goodbye
Thinking of this life I've known, many things that I'm so proud of, like the seeds that I've sewn,
I pray the good outweighs the bad,and I made the most of kindness with the options I had,
I know I shouldn't think of things that might have been,
Had I chose a different path that led from my sin,
There's no point dwelling on things that cannot be undone,
The end will need forgiveness, should I stand by the Son
Chorus:
My Love, Goodbye
There's nothing proved by sorrow in the tears that I cry,
My Love, goodbye
I pray this journey's starting and we'll meet on the the other side.
Lead
My Love, Goodbye
There's nothing proved by sorrow in the tears that we cry,
My Love, goodbye
I pray this journey's starting and we'll meet on the the other side
My Love, Goodbye
There's nothing proved by sorrow in the tears that we cry,
My Love, Goodbye
I pray this journey's starting and we'll meet on the the other side
Oh Goodbye
My love Goodbye
My love Goodbye
Oh how I love you

So cool! 8)
sure has my nomination! this is one that I think we worked particularly hard on, mostly in your absence while we were awaiting your recovery. I remember the comments that this was not going to be your goodbye song, and either through the miracle of modern medicine, the miracle of prayer, or just your refusal to give in, we are lucky to have you around with us. :)
not to mention the fact that this is a great song, and congratulations to the extra effort from all involved. This among others from the CBZ/SPB deserve to be heard! A big pat on the back to all the Bros.

I just want that damn drummer on a few of my tunes. !!! Oh yeah... He is !! ;D
-
I totally agree Dave, Marc is an amazing man an inspiration for us all IMHO.
I sang this when Marc was literally in surgery (I think it was and if not it was very close to it) so there was plenty emotion went into the vocal, since the history of his condition did not bode well for a rosy outcome.
We are very priviledged to have you here Marc, keep the songs coming bro but not quite so fast though, as that may send ME on an early journey to the other side :) :) :) :)
Todd is another great dude :) :)

WOW! All the finished songs I've listened to today were great, and this one is no exception.
-
MArc and CBZ,
You guys are stars:).
A very worthy song, and a personal one at that, but the WHOLE band sounds so into it.
Good arrangement too, with the slow intro seguing into a hard rock-ballad. The Purple-Sabbath feel is deliciously obvious.
Great playing (as usual), great vocal and a blinder of a solo towards the end!!
Cant wait for this album to be released!!
Cheers

Thanks AJ, Stoman and Andy :) :)
I broke 2 top E strings while trying to record that guitar solo, I was absolutely hammering the guitar :D :D Trying to convey tyhe angst and frustration of the situation (or at loeast the way that I would have felt given these set of circumstances!) :-[

Thanks for all the positive comments everyone. This one really means alot to myself, in that you can actually feel the emotion (anger, love,..) that went into the performance itself..it's not just a bunch of guys looking at some sheet music and playing it. I wrote this the evening of the day I met with the surgeons, who basically told myself and my wife, point blank, to write a will and prepare arrangements. The mri scan, that was floating around from doctor to doctor for months (the file got lost and we personally tracked it down and found a specialist), eventually landed in the hands of a specialist who immediately saw a 3cm tumor inside my pancreas.Anything other than 2.5cm is considered fatal and non-operable, but due to my age and general good health, they opted to toss me on the table 2 days later and aggressively operate, instead of the usual incision, they would open me up completely. The stats were 40% the op would be fatal, and over 70% within the next few days. So basically, wrote this within 5 minutes, slapped the demo drums and guitars and bass on it (original 1st take bass on this) and posted it up for the guys as I was thinking at the time may have been quite possibly the last tune I'd write..was more or less a goodbye song to the world....but in keeping with my personality, didn't want some sullen, sentimental soft type of song accepting the situation...wanted to convey my aggressive attutude that I wouldn't be dragged out of this world without a fight...would have to be pulled kicking and screaming the whole time....and this is conveyed by Steve at the end of the tune absolutely. This performance by the gang here is the real deal, as the raw emotion and aggression isn't simulated or rehearsed...it was written and played as only a situation like this could bring out of anyone...still gives me chills listening to it actually! :)

Fantastic guys! :) :) :)
Some amazing guitar work there, Steve! :)
Great production all around, and i'm glad you're still hangin with us Marc! :)

Thanks Rob, Rebecca and Holger :) :)

I wanted to bump up this song on today of all days , I was listening to alot of Marc's songs. It's very moving and prophetic as well as being a great song.
CD
-
The song sure has a lot of emotional impact now. Doesn't it !! :(
-
It had e
an atomic warheads worth of impact then........................now.............................................
-
we had hoped that it wouldn't be prophetic. I think that at the time Marc penned those words he had just realized that it would be a difficult battle at best. :( it's relevancy makes it all the more powerful. Too sad. I'm still numb this morning.
-
me too.
-
I first heard this song about a year ago. The power and raw emotion that poured out of it was incredible. When I listened to it again last night I felt the same power only on a much larger scale. This great song will live on. This is all very very sad.
-
Yes great song.
the admirable thing about Marc was that he had the courage to lay bare his soul, his feelings, his heart out on paper..not many of us can do that.
listening to CBZ songs too, a great bunch of songs from CBZ...some topical, some cool story songs, some are sheer retro goodness.
Love the CBZ band, all of the guys in the band are "top of their game" musicians, Marc and Steve were a great engine room..a cool partnership.
I hope to see the CBZ album released sooner than later...there must an album's worth of songs in there....I will buy the CD btw, not just the downloads.

Guys, does anybody have a lossless version (FLAC, APE, WAV) of this song? I would like to burn it on a CD as a souvenir of the time we all had with Marc - along with the songs we did together.
Regards,
Steffen

I think it may have to wait until the finished CD is available. Steve will correct me if I'm mistaken.

:'(... Some years ago, I was in the same situation, I'm still here but Marc didn't make it, I'm so sad :-[
-
Steve, Jay, Mark and Todd,
I need the latest version for this song (Goodbye) as well as Pte. Pat. They will be both played at Marc's service. I heard the file on the top of this discussion and it sounded pretty good to me, is that the one I use? And is Pte. Pat latest version the one I got from email?
I don't think I can handle these songs yet in the original with Marc singing, so I will use the work you guys did with him. Please just go ahead and send me a direct email so I can get it right away. I am also posting something on those two message boards I was posting...
Thanks guys...

Dany , I have them both.
I'll convert them into the highest quality Mp3 and send you a link to download them.
