Orphan Train
Wake up children
Wipe that sleep from your eyes
Step outside
Line up straight
Let these country folks decide
If you're the one, they'll choose today
To work their plows, tend their crops,
Milk their cows, to take you away
Away from the orphan train
So long Jenny, so long Jane
I wave goodbye from the orphan train
They can't see these tears I cry
I take my seat, dry my eyes
On the orphan train
On the orphan train
Riding these rails
From city gloom to country bloom
Far from home
Kin's long gone
And you're all alone, all alone
Ya got no voice, ya got no say
Brothers, sisters, the friends you made,
Those you love all taken away
You're riding the orphan train
Farewell Lenny, farewell Lane
I wave goodbye from the orphan train
They can't see these tears I cry
I take my seat, dry my eyes
On the orphan train
On the orphan train
Waiting on one family
With a destination they can share
These tracks stretch on forever
Are they're leading me somewhere
Are they leading me somewhere
I hold close my memories
In a cardboard suitcase given me
Hello lonesome, hello fear
I see your shadow sittin' here
On the orphan train
On the orphan train
That's all that's left
On the orphan train

No, but that one is good too. I think it was two kids looking very lost.

What an interesting song! :) Fine lyrics (quite poignant). Great vocals, and lovely musical arrangement and drums. Well done, MM, Paul, Ray, and John. :D

Hey this one is currently #12 in Acoustic Folk at Soundclick (http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=153137&content=songinfo&songID=6409619).... woo hoo... okay that really doesn't mean much, but it's a slow night...
I posted a link to this song on a genealogy message board about the Orphan Trains, and it was very well received and appreciated.... it's a slice of history not often served...
