A simple rendition featuring Anne's honeyed vocals and Rob's mellow guitar.
Hope you like it. ;)

Music & Guitar: Rob Wood
Arrangement/Melody & Vocals: Anne Cozean
Lyrics: Donna Devine
Candlelight Becomes You
(v1)
Darling, candlelight becomes you
It softens all the lies
Makes all the more disarming
The deception in your eyes
(v2)
Oh, you've never seemed so loving
And I wish I didn't know
How well you've been preparing
To place the final blow
Chorus
Dinner for two
What a masquerade
Each of us afraid
Of what the other might do
Goodbye is never painless
Though yours will come as no surprise
Yes, candlelight becomes you
It softens all the lies / softens all the lies
(v3)
The red rose on our table
Begins to slowly wilt
A lonely parody of love
Intimation of your guilt
(v4)
What a fool I would have been
Not to see how you had changed
How your fire turned to ashes
How my future's rearranged
Bridge
You think I want to make you suffer
Darling, but I don't
You hope I'll make this easy for you
Darling, but I won't
Instrumental break
Chorus
Dinner for two
What a masquerade
Each of us afraid
Of what the other might do
Goodbye is never painless
Though yours will come as no surprise
Yes, candlelight becomes you
It softens all the lies / softens all the lies

This is a very lovely ballad. I can also hear this with a nice jazzy piano accompaniment.

Sometimes less is more, great and beautifull... I could add a thousand tracks in this tune but I love it just as it is, I wouldn't change a little thing on it.
I like people with enough guts to provide tracks as simple as this one... Congratulations.

Nice one. I listened to it then I went back and read the lyrics. Really good the way you told the story. Third verse is cool how the rose is the symbol for it all.

Very sweet. Really nice vocals and beautiful guitar playing by Rob. It works well nice and simple. Good job Donna!! :)

What a wonderful vocal performance on this one. It's so evocative I can easily imagine this one being used in a film soundtrack.
The music conveys a nice sense of mystery and an ominous end to the dinner. Beautiful.
