Another shortish song. This will die a quick death I'm sure. :P
Gunman
Lyrics - Themba
Music and Vocals - Billy Playle
It was a long time ago
What I did was bad I know
I pulled the trigger and a young man died
I can't forget his face though I try and I try
I fled the scene and went on the run
No-one wants to know a man with a gun
Violence only brings violence don't you know?
Mother, oh mother, what have I done?
Forgive this foolish murdering son
Now they come and lock me away
A twenty year stretch that's what I'll pay
Now I'm inside this jail I beg for some forgiveness
I've got things to do and my life will change
I don't want to be a gunman no more
I don't want to be a murderer no more
From this moment on
Love is all I'm teaching
Put down the guns
And practice what I'm preaching
I'm on a righteous path, what a feeling
My heart is good and my mind and soul is releasing
I've done my time
And I am the hopeful sinner
Whose will is strong and whose heart is good
I don't want to be a gunman no more
I don't want to be a bad man no more
Young man, put down your weapon
Lose the hate before you lose the last of your love
I don't want to be a gunman no more
I don't want to be a hitman no more
No more guns, no more knives
No more hate, no more killings
No more destruction, no more gangs
No more drugs.....just love your brother.

Yet another shift in Style ;D And again you've nailed it, sounds really good....I mean I don't really like Reggae but I like this ;)

Billy you kill me dude,... total vocal chameleon on this. The only way I know it's you singing is from your distinct vibrato at the end of your phrases. Your use of the guitar delays are perfect!
I really really like it. You can post shades of the islands anytime!

Great Stuff Billy, enjoyed that .
You'll have to grew some dreads and post a new pic ;D ;D

Killer roots groove in here Billy :) From Big Band Jazz to da rightous roots dub, you're really pounding 'dem out mon! ;D ;D ;D Based on the mix/sound alone, I'd be willing to bet this would put in rotation on Reggae stations around here no probs (where my radio is dialed in most of time BTW, most of my buddies are Rastas')...this stuff is explosive around here (sure wish I could play it...wouldn't have to crawl inside ovens and diswashers for a living! ;D)...keep 'em coming!

I'm happy others are on board with this Billy! ;D ;D Seriously bro....want that Swiss Chalet in the alps? (yeah, jazz is cool...wanna make some money? :D) Lay me down 12 killer roots reggae tunes, I'll set you up with a drop-dead-handsome 21 year old St.Lucian guy (with dreads covering his muscular chest) singing on top in English/Patois, pass it on to Marley clan (youngest lives here BTW...all inter connected)...won't compete with Britney (God help us :P) but you'll move one HELL of alot of units! ;D ;D ;D
Jam on mon!

Nice sort of Reggae tune, Billy... Very nice indeed.

I'm looking at your picture and listening to the the singing on the tune and I can't reconcile them! That was not singing - it was performance of the highest order and the entire song is perfectly convincing. Amazing.
I listened to 40 tunes from here (all of page 2) all last week at work without knowing who did what. I was almost certain the singer of this tune was the same as the singer on "Better Left Unseen" (another one of yours?) and am totally surprised to find that's not the case.
The production is fantastic. This is indistinguishable quality-wise from anything you would hear on a major label release.

Nice reggae tune Billy
