Title: The Fiery Flamingo (lullaby/Celtic) (Robyn/Donna)
Post by: Donna on February 09, 2010, 04:16:00 PM
The FAWM challenge was to write a lyric/song about a figure on one of the 54 Mexican "Loteria" cards. I drew the flamingo, and a lullaby sprang to mind.
(The "Simurgh" is a mythical bird, of significance in certain spiritual traditions.)

Robyn leaped into the fray and wanted to musicify the lyric. To my mind, she was the perfect choice.

Donna

Music/Arrangement/Instruments: Robyn MacKenzie
Vocals: Robyn MacKenzie
Lyrics: Donna Devine

The Fiery Flamingo

(v1)
The fiery flamingo
Has radiant wings
To bear you up high
Where the rare Simurgh sings

(v2)
Now stroke its soft feathers
And whisper your name
So it will remember
The place whence you came

Refrain
Don't weep, little one
Only sleep, little one
Feel the beat of its heart
As you fly far away
Out of sight of the day
To where Infinity starts

(v3)
The fiery flamingo
Is of all birds the king
For sunset and dawn
Are both born in its wings

(v4)
And it feeds in cool water
On wee golden fish
As it waits for my darling
To make a dream wish

Refrain
Don't weep, little one
Only sleep, little one
Feel the beat of its heart
As you fly far away
Out of sight of the day
To where Infinity starts

Instrumental break

Repeat refrain

Wow, this is good. The gentle melody really fits your peaceful lyrics, Donna. And the vocal harmonies really pulled me in.

Benny, Torren61, Jay, Paul, and TallPaul, thank you for your kind comments. :)
I'm pleased you like this. It's something a bit different for sure. I'll pass the kudos on to Robyn.  ;)

Grrrrrrrrreat! Donna, (you know) this is exactly my favorite style.

May I ask for a lossless version of this song? :)

Regards,

Donna, you have such a beautiful mind to think of and share such things.

Robyn has such a soothing quality to her voice that is like looking at a beautiful painting, you want to take it all in and let your senses soar. The violin addition is quite brilliant and adds a reflective edge to it. The whole song from lyrics to vocal performance is drenched in class.

Thank you both.

Billy.
