Tricia wrote some lyrics and I contributed here and there, then did the music. Let me know what you think, and if the mix is done or not!
Above The Blue
The sky is beautiful tonight
I wish my mood was bright
But you're on a different plane
You aren't feeling my pain
My emotions
have hit a wall
can't pull myself up,
afraid to fall
I'm frozen, I'm wishing
I could soar above the blue
I'm hoping and praying
that I'll connect with you
We'll leave the pain and fly above the blue
The moon is calling for me now
behind a distant cloud
A single tear falls on the ground
It will never be found
All my dreaming
is blown away
with the careless
words you say
I'm frozen, I'm wishing
I could soar above the blue
I'm hoping and praying
that I'll connect with you
We'll leave the pain and fly above the blue
br:
See below the surface
the hurt runs deep
A look, a touch, a purpose
prepares us for the leap
I'm frozen, I'm wishing
I could soar above the blue
I'm hoping and praying
that I'll connect with you
we'll leave the pain and fly above the blue
we'll leave the pain and fly above the blue
The dream could soon come true, together we can
break the curse in two, and stop the crying
Leave the pain and fly above the blue

It sounds great to me. :)

I second that. The drums sound a bit strange, and for me - but that's just personal taste - the mix could be a little "lighter", but the overall impression is really great.
Very nice vocals! Have I heard you sing before? Or isn't that you singing?
Regards,
Steffen

Thanks! :)
Steffen, yeah I think you've heard my song "Wendy" haven't you?
So production:
What do mean could be a little lighter? To much low end...or?
Also could you be more specific about what you'd change about the drums?
Thanks again!!
-
Ah, Wendy ... yes. A very nice song too!
I'm listening again (this time with head phones). Forget what I said about lightness. My ears must have been deaf from mixing. ;)
The drums sound cheap and programmed, and as if they don't belong to the song. Cheap samples?
Regards,
Steffen
-
Well, not exactly cheap drums, they are generally considered the gold standard, it's Steven Slate Platinum (Using the Ballad Kit).
I actually like the drum sound on this but maybe I compressed the snare too much or something? Or maybe I could do some better programming!
-
I like this tune a lot... Very nice piano playing, man... Lovely... Cool harmonie vocals.
The drums sound fair enough to me. A matter of taste I believe.
-
Alright, Thanks Poulo!
-
Yes, I think the snare is the main problem. But not the only one - the room does not seem to match the rest of the mix. The drummer seems to play on a different stage than the band. ;)
But don't take that too serious! It may just be my old-fashioned, inflexible ears. It's a great song anyway. If you like it as is, then keep it as is! :)
Regards,
Steffen

Yeah the drums were sort of in the same "room" as the lead vocal with that longish verb on both. I've re-eq'ed the drums, compressed a little less, changed some programming and made them dryer like the rest of the instruments instead. This may work better (the new version is uploaded).

Very nice LMK. Great vocals. 8) Drums sound fine to me. A nice piano ballad. Some added instruments might be nice with this but it works perfectly fine with just the piano. Like it. :)

Sounds better! :)
I listened to the song on my way back from work today. Very nice, indeed.

Good song!
sounds real nice. :)
-
Thanks a lot, I appreciate kind and useful comments!

Nice song. Good lyrics (Tricia??) , performances (singing and playing) and production.
Mix sounds nice and clear and crisp maybe the the drums need to sound "bigger" or punchier cause for some reason mid-80s rock balladry a la Journey springs to mind.

;D yes! Andy, it's not too often someone wanders into my lyric forum. He did a nice job for sure! :)

Nice feel. Well done.
