My thanks to the following people for their contributions and advice.
Catfish - keyboards
Captain Fantastic - vocals
Cyclone - acoustic guitar, shaker, oohs.
So Long Ago - Words & music: toadman (c)2011
When I was 17, I didn't know why, I was young and loud, thought I could fly
When I met you, I was 25, it seems so long ago
When I was 31, we became three, talk about a fast train to reality
Now I'm older, pickens are slim, if anybody asks me, I wouldn't change a thing
I posted this as finished but Catfish has suggested maybe a latin beat like congas, so........................

mick,
i passed this tune to a couple of my friends & they, both, came back to me & said: sounds like Leonard Cohan....
if you never heard Leonard, maybe want to look him up & listen..Leonard's a trip.....
thank for the opportunity: i had a great time & learned some new things along the way... not often that a b-3 is really heard in a tune, anymore...
great work Mick,,, look forward to hearing other Toadman originals...
Al....................

Thanks CD.
Thanks Al, very kind of your mates to say so. I've listened to Leonard C. quite a bit in the past.
It was a pleasure working with you (again) and your tracks added so much to the song.
If your interested, I've got one up with the working title 'Strat 1'. Plenty of room for keys and the same red hot fretless bassplayer who played on 'Stay' over at Kompoz.
