Title: Everybody Hates A Thief
Post by: rightonthemark on April 21, 2014, 07:23:34 PM
this tune came from the combination of a lyric idea Johnny sent me & the fact that i had just been doing some multi-track experimentation and came up with this music. after reading the lyric i thought wow what a great fit. thus a song was born. for singing flow purposes there are a few changes but it's basically it --- i posted Johnny's original lyric.

Johnny - lyrics
DrumGuy (Mark Cole) - drums
rightonthemark (Mark Shrider) - music, guitar, bass, vocals, mix

everybody hates a thief

(vs)
if you could see him in the dark, he'd be smiling
Twisted lips, steel ball bearing eyes
if you listen to him talk, you'll say beguiling
greasy bits of truth wrapped up in lies

put your hand on his heart, feel the beating
the dead thump of a cold-blooded pump
worms inside his soul are slowly eating
likes a maggot blow feeds on a fecal dump

(ch)
....ev'rybody hates a thief
trust is how they creep into your life
Even a thief, hates a thief
back-stabbing rat just stole your knife

(vs)
in-between the shadows he comes crawling
carefully, and lightly where he treads
breaks a lock and slithers down your hallway
dark as any nightmare in your head

if you could see him in the dark, he'll be smiling
as any wolf who lies among the sheep
the visions in his mind sees you crying
as he steals you blind while your fast asleep

(ch)
....ev'rybody hates a thief
trust is how they creep into your life
Even a thief, hates a thief
back-stabbing rat just stole your knife!

(br)
He rifles thru the drawers of my possesions
Steals the plans of all my future dreams
spook of a soul who lives by his obsessions
money, power and pornographic greed

(ch)
....ev'rybody hates a thief
trust is where how they creep into your life
Even a thief, hates a thief
back-stabbing rat just stole your knife

Cool, Mark!
When I remember your first steps here you really improved a lot!!!!
For some reason I think of Judas Priest!

hey Mark1 and Mark2 (why am I thinking of the film multiciplity) when I type this :))

Great track, strong performances on vocals, guitars and drums.

Sounds like a Sabbath meets Priest classic.

Seen any good bats lately?

thanks Doc and Andy...
i suppose it's hard to hide one's influences.
DrumGuy (Mark) did a killer job on the drums.
i especially like what he did with the double kick thing going from the harmony lead to the second part of the solo. overall i love the feel the tom beat gave the song.
i was worried that in trying to get a big fat sound that i was a little too low end and maybe even a bit muddy - especially comparing to some modern pro mixes (sheperd of fire by avenged sevenfold - because it has some heavy tom beats in there too). good to know it came out sounding good to you guys.

thanks...

Thanks guys!  :)

Andy, I was going to bite the head off a bat, but couldn't get past the taste. What is the right condiment to use on a bat head???  ;D

Mark (the other one)

thanks Frank.
Kiss is my all time favorite band (the originals of course).
good to see the Hall finally recognize them.
too bad they had to act like spoiled little brats though.
but had the Hall inducted them when they were first eligible then there wouldn't have been a problem because they were together then...but i digress...{{{sigh}}}
i think gene simmons was one of the first voices i ever tried to imitate.
i used to sing cold gin back in my band days.

thanks...

here are two new mixes.
well, they're really the same mix with a little different treatment on the master track.
let me know what you think.
i kept feeling like the original mix was too low end & even a bit muddy.
this is considerably brighter.
though i tried to keep the bass, the toms & the kick as big, fat & meaty as possible.
did i go too bright?

thanks...

Mark,

I like the original mix best. Mix 6 is painfully bright for me and 7 looses too much bottom. I know the extra low end adds some 'mud', but I think it's right for this song. Of course YMMV.

Mark:

Great job everyone.

Mark, you sound good and Johnny did an excellent job on the lyric, it's very tastey.

Mark (Drumguy)

i have been sitting here trying to figure out what the heck YMMV means.  :o

i was afraid i went too far the other way. looks like i need to find a happy medium. or maybe just leave it be. i can't help but to think i make it just a tad better if i can just clean up the mud.
who knows...i think maybe i need to move on to some new things i got brewing before i drive myself crazy.

thanks again Mark for the drumming and the audio input - i always seem to second guess myself on that aspect.

Your Mileage May Vary - not sure why I used that expression, it just popped out.  ;)

I know what you're saying about the bottom end, but I think it may take different tom sounds to get where you want to be, or maybe I just don't know how it could be done... Anyway, I think you did a great job on the original mix. You should post a high def copy of the master for people like me! (.wav, .ape, .flac)

Hi, Mark!

I cannot say much about the mixes at the moment as I simply don't hear enough. I'll give them a listen when/if my ears get better.

okay. last & final mix. well...until i mess with it again.  8)

i tried to make it more like the original with a little less muddiness.
definitely not as bright as those other mixes but i think just a bit more clarity than the original mix.
what say y'all?

I know the "Finished Works" board is for new tunes...

so it's seldom I re-post an old tune to the top of this board

Out of consideration for all the Great new songs that deserve to be heard

So let me say, "Sorry Folks" in advance...but

This tune, I believe, deserves a repost!

Firstly, because I missed congratulating Mark & Mark on a very Fab song, I'm sorry fellas... :-[

Secondly, look at the number of views, folks!  8) 8) 8) Over 10,000...

Not only a great credit to Mark's talents, but too all of MCS!

Mark this has gotta be sum kind 'a sight record, and Gerk prob'ly owes us a check  ;)

Wonderful work fellas, and Thank You for having me!  8)

Cheers!, to all those dirty, rotten, low down thieves out there!
