Title: Take A Chance - 70s rock/pop
Post by: stoman on July 29, 2014, 12:37:25 PM
A long, long time ago I posted a MIDI draft of this song at a German recording site. Roundabout one and a half year later I am proud to present you the finished product, thanks to Bernd Oettinger, who recorded bass, guitars and vocals and made the song come alive:

Lyrics: Paul Dempsey
Bass, Guitars, Timpani: Bernd Oettinger
Drums: Andreas Hülsen
Music & Mix: Steffen Offermann

TAKE A CHANCE

There’ll be days when
You don’t want to get out of bed
And there’ll be many words
You wish you had never said

There will be people you meet
You wish you never met
And there’ll be some
You hope you’ll never forget

But every soul you meet
Is not a sinner
Every hand you’re dealt
Is not a winner
Not every cloud
Will have a silver lining
And every problem
Isn’t worth the whining
But hey,
As long as you’re
At the dance
You might as well
Take a chance
Take a chance
Take a chance

Not every road you travel
Is long and winding
And not every promise you make
Is forever binding

Some answers you’ll find
May lead to other questions
And you’re loving friends
Will always make suggestions

Life holds no guarantees
It just lets you live
We all are takers
But only some of us give

Steffen:

As I mentioned I think Bernd did a very good job on this, it feels very good.  Please thank him for me.

Nice song Steffen. Sounds like something 'Donovan' or 'Bread' would have done. I'm beginning to think you were born in the wrong era. I think this would have done really well.......you would have a hit on your hands.

I love the burst of the chorus. Your friend Bernd has a cool voice.

Enjoyed the listen.

sounds great.

Thanks, Mark! BTW, the drums will be replaced. A German drummer will give it a try. He has an electronic kit, but he can trigger the same sample library that I used, so the sound will be the same.

Billy, you are so right - I'm a real kid of the 70s in terms of music/sound taste. But back then people like me who can't play any instrument decently enough would never have had a chance to get their musical ideas out to the people (let alone produce them in a way that you could listen to them without making your ears bleed). That's the benefit of our times.

  Steffen

Sigh ... :) Andreas noticed that there was a misplaced crash hit (he re-ordered the crashes after tracking because they were mirrored). I fixed that too, and here is the totally final final version. :)

One and a half years...that's not bad !  >:D

Came out well Steffen..I like the transition from the end of the chorus into verse 2 - very inventive
