Title: A Near-Life Experience (Billy, Monique, Donna)
Post by: Donna on September 17, 2010, 11:14:41 AM
The term "near-life experience" popped into my mind while I was reading about near-death experiences a while ago. Seems a lot of people go through life almost without being aware of it.

The genre is probably musical theatre, so - on MCS - it's like an apple in a bowl full of oranges. But a change is as good as a rest.  ;)

Music/melody/instrumentation: Billy Playle
Vocals: Monique French
Lyrics: Donna Devine

A Near-Life Experience

(v1)
I came so close to holding you
But voices held me back
The ones that warned of danger
If I left the beaten track

(v2)
I came so close to wanting you
But fear's a cruel chain
It loosens for a glimpse of hope
Then tightens up again

Pre-chorus
I almost had
Oh yes, I almost had

Chorus
A near-life experience
To fill me with wonder
And for one breathless moment
I burst through the cloud I'm under
I was so near to having
Oh, very near to having
A near-life experience with you

(v3)
I came so close to loving you
And moving through your light
But I began to panic
When my old world fell from sight

Short solo

Bridge
If time were a cloak
I'd unravel its seams
Dig into its pockets
For remnants of dreams
For threads of my longing
And the pieces of you
I threw off so lightly
Before, oh yes, before the rare bird flew

Pre-chorus
I almost had
Oh yes, I almost had

Chorus
A near-life experience
To fill me with wonder
And for one breathless moment
I burst through the cloud I'm under
I was so near to having
Oh, very near to having
A near-life experience with you

Oh, very near to having
A near-life experience with you

mind blowing, breath taking music! I've never heard a better song from this place and I think it is Billys masterpiece so far.

I love it and I'm deeply impressed by it. What more can I say? People listen to this song. Isn't it great, great, great?
Billy (Monique  ;D ) sings it so wonderful, I can see the audience in a theater applauding!

Absolutely lovely, I love apples.  Donna the lyric is to die for or maybe to live for!!

Well done.

Here's how I would describe this song;
If all of us here at MCS were like Santa's little elves, we would all be in this big room with our own tools, each working on our own little projects - then this song would start to play, and everyone in the room would just put down their tools and stand there in total silence - mesmerized by the music, vocals, and lyrics. :) :) 8)

Wow, "Love Them Apples",

It's not the kind of music I throw in the ol' CD player, but this work sure makes you stop and listen. Each piece is so well crafted, that the "whole of it" simply shines.....just shines....Lovely work!

P.S. How we get a hold of Monique?! ;D
