Title: Painting Pictures
Post by: docmidnite on December 17, 2012, 05:23:51 PM
Started as a short melody phrase with some words (if I would paint a picture of myself...)
and ended up with a whole "symphony" in it  ;D

Untypically this is no vers/chorus/bridge-song ;) and yet itīs sounds like it!

Thanks to John/MrMom who - again - taylored the lyrics to my request  :-*

Painting Pictures (c) 2012: Music: Henry Mittnacht, Lyrics: John Scunziano

If I would paint a picture of myself
Would it be in rainbow colours, or different shades of grey
If I would paint a picture of myself
Would I be the brightest colours, If I would paint a picture of myself

If I would shoot a movie 'bout myself
Would I be the lucky fellow who - always gets the girl
If I would shoot a movie 'bout myself
Would I get to play the hero - If I would shoot a movie 'bout myself

Yeah if I was in that movie...
Would I be the guy the crowd roots for
Or just someone  in the background
Never noticed - never known...

And if I... ever wrote a song about myself
Would it be...  kind of sad... oh, oooh, oooh, oh
Or perhaps... a melody as beautiful
As a grand... symphony

You can write a song about yourself
It can be a song so lovely - that the whole world wants to sing
And you could be a hero in your life
Cause in life we all have choices
Yeah, you can paint the picture that you like...

Very nice song Henry. Lovely melody and arrangement.

Did you play all the parts yourself, I was looking for the credits.

Your vocals keep improving with every song you sing.

Andy

errrr....yes! Nobody jumped in, so, one had to do the job  :D ;D
Honestly I used EZKeys for the Piano so itīs not me playing it.
I just took advantage of what this plugin had to offer and tweaked it to what you hear!

Andy, Errol, Benny, John and Steffen: Thank you for listening an likeing it!

Are you still using ez mix?
Have you used ez mix 2?  I hear its great.

The piano is EZKeys, strings are IKīs Mirouslav and Session Strings from NI.
Yeah, I use EZMix a lot and have upgraded to EZMix 2!!! Helps tremendously getting a quick mix  ;)

Henry
Great song. You have mastered Ezkeys. I have purchased all the upgrades to it and love em, they can really help you color your songs just the way want too, as you have with this song. Great production.

Mick and Bob, thanks for listening!

@Bob: Yeah, I love it! The strings btw is just the piano MIDI playing strings (with some minor tweaks). Thatīs the trick  ;D. What I havenīt done yet is "writing" a song with the given chord progressions. What I did was adopting the chords I had in mind onto keyboard... so the other way round like it is supposed to work  :D ;D

I have actually taken a bunch of the progressions and modified them so I could use them to fit what I was doing and still be original. You might try this site http://piano-loops.com/country-pop-piano-loops-vol1/ these can all be used with EZ Keys with a lot of options. You can also try writing your own progression then highlight it, then right above measure 1 it says use browser midi, click on that and select the style of music you want and it will play the progression in that style. It doesn't always work right but alot of the time it does.  I also take the number 1 variation and use it with like an organ or strings. Great way to convey your ideas. I have a couple listed here   http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/15081514

Mark and Paulo thanks for listening!

@Paulo: That plugin is amazing for non-pianoplayers! But it needs lots of finetuning to do the trick  ;)

@Mark: I had Adele in mind while writing it!

Henry may feel odd about promoting himself, but I have no problem bragging on his talent, especially when he took this "old" song of ours and breathed new life into it, with this amazing youtube video!

Oh wow, this is great!

The music was always first-rate, and the video is very tastefully done too. Like the way the camera treats the peripherals/sides of the screen.

Henry you should be very proud of your work.

Well done.

Is this the 2nd song from the package?

Andy

So sad, that something like this does not get as much attention as it derserves. This is so much better than what most of us hobbyists can do. It takes a lot of skills and dedication to achieve that.

I checked out the song from the YouTube link as the MP3 was too quiet to hear it.

A very good song Henry and an excellent video too.
