The White Rose Info
I wrote the lyric for this piece after reading "on line" about the group called the White Rose in Germany during WWII. They were a group of students at the University of Munich that mounted a campaign against the Third Reich by producing leaflets and distributing them throughout the campus. Their efforts were fatal. They were captured by the Gestapo after only six leaflets were produced and their main leaders were beheaded. The White Rose is still honored highly in Germany.
I sent the lyric to Inge (Serious Music) because I felt she, being German, and her approach to topics from a "serious perspective" would do the lyric justice. And she certainly did.
The White Rose
Lyric: Paul Dempsey

(v1)
Somehow the clouds gathered
And hid the meaning of the sun
There was very little warmth
And no one knew why it had begun
(v2)
Only a handful ever questioned
What was really taking place
Something was terribly wrong
That even time couldn't erase
(chorus)
There were thoughts
They needed to oppose
There were wrongs
They needed to expose
They were the brave souls
Known as the white rose
(v3)
Truths outlined in leaflets
Positioned as a wake up call
Predicting the final outcome
That all the evil would fall
(bridge)
They had made the choice
To be the voice of their Fatherland
Although numbering a few
They knew what to do
They made their fatal stand
(chorus)
(outro)
As the wind blows and the Rhine flows
Let them carry the memory of the White Rose
Let them carry the memory of the White Rose
