A little jazz/blues number, based on the well-known 19th-century nursery rhyme about days of the week. Featuring Billy's trademark magical touch and Shanon's lovely vocals.

Music/melody/arrangement/instruments: Billy Playle
Vocals/harmony: Shanon Lee
Lyrics: Donna Devine

Wednesday's Child

(v1)
She has Monday's face
And Tuesday's grace
And like Thursday's
She still has far to go
But right now she's thinking
It's all such a waste
'Cause like Wednesday's Child
She's full of woe

Chorus
The days of the week
Mean little to her now
Since that lover
Left her high and dry
She tosses and turns
While the memory burns
Of the easy way
He told her goodbye

(v2)
She has Friday's flair
And Saturday's care
And like Sunday's
She has a gentle soul
But right now she's thinking
Life's too hard to bear
'Cause like Wednesday's Child
She's full of woe

Chorus
The days of the week
Mean little to her now
Since that lover
Left her high and dry
She tosses and turns
While the memory burns
Of the easy way
He told her goodbye

Bridge
What good is Monday's face
Or Tuesday's grace
If she can't recall the last time she smiled
Thursday and Friday, the weekend too
Don't do anything but make her blue
'Cause she's feelin', oh whoa, she's feelin'
Feelin'like Wednesday's child

Chorus
The days of the week
Mean little to her now
Since that lover
Left her high and dry
She tosses and turns
While the memory burns
Of the easy way
He told her goodbye

Outro
Mmmm hmmmmm She's hurtin'
Oh yeah, today she's hurtin'
Hurtin' just like Wednesday's Child

Really really good...shame I'm not more of a Jazz fan else I'd have loved this.  Fantastic playing and singing.

Paul, Bill, Ian, Paulo, Dave, Jay, and CD. Sorry to be late with my thanks.  Smiley

I'm pleased you like this. As you say, Dave, with Shanon's voice and Billy's playing, it can't go wrong.  Wink

Lovely! I'm not into jazz, but Billy's melodies and arrangements make me forget that. Smiley

Well done, folks! Very good lyrics, as always.

Donna,

What a consummate write and performance!!! This is not the usual genre of music i listen to - but it doesnt take away from the quality of this composition.

Well done everyone!!

Specially enjoyed the "acoustic" double bass sound!

Had to come back for another listen. Cool Cool

Is Shannon available to share her vocals here at MCS? I believe this is the first time I've heard her.

Or did the record companies discover her and take her away. Grin
