This was a real fast project to do mainly because it was right up my street ..Johnny was kind enough to ask me to look at his fine lyrics for this one and gave me a free hand to see what I could come up with.
I had fully intended to work on a bed track and put it out for further collaboration but it developed so well I decided to call it complete.
Johnny's lyrics are a whole lot of fun based around old friends reminiscing over the old punk days at the CBGB club while one is applying financial pressure on the other ... a shake down  ;D

Great fun to do and I loved putting on even funnier voices than normal LOL ...I aimed at a cross between the Pistols. The Buzzcocks and it seems Jilted John  :D

Anyway we hope you like it

Lyrics - Johnny Ace Williams/Marty Brooke
Other stuff - Ian Burrage (Stonehead)

CBGBs

(Intro)
I saw Scumbag at a downtown pub
His hair was clean an' his face was scrubbed
He tried to act like we never met
He told me where to find ya on the internet

(vs)
Facebook says yer a College Dean
Used to go mad for "God Save The Queen"
All those years of sniffin' glue
I thought our thinkin' days were through

(ch)
I remember that night at CBGB's
Her T-shirt said "I Hate the Bee Gees"
Yer spiked collar and her black lips
Ya pogo'ed around on an acid trip

And remember that night at CBGB's
Ya said the chick was givin' freebies
When you told her how ya never paid
She carved yer nuts with a razor blade

"No Future" was our mantra...
"No Future" was our mantra
"No Future" was our mantra
Funny how the past comes back to haunt you!

VS:
Now ya got respect and yer elbows rubbed
A membership card to the Lyon's Club
Ya look so fab in yer suit an tie
I bet they never met that other guy

We used to puke after huffin' paint
On our girlfriend's shoes or a patron saint
On yer plonker ya tattooed Johnny Rotten
I know who you are, Mate, it ain't forgotten

CH:
I remember that night at CBGB's
Her T-shirt said "I Hate the Bee Gees"
Yer spiked collar and her black lips
Ya pogo'ed around on an acid trip

And remember that night at CBGB's
Ya said the chick was givin' freebies
When you told her how ya never paid
She carved yer nuts with a razor blade

"No Future" was our mantra...
"No Future" was our mantra
"No Future" was our mantra
Funny how the past comes back to haunt you!

BR
They won't know you were into The Clash
If ya stay sober at the office bash
I know how ya get when yer really smashed

By the way dude....can I borrow some cash???

CH:
Remember that night at CBGB's
Her T-shirt said "I Hate the Bee Gees"
Your spiked collar and her black lips
Ya pogo'ed around on an acid trip

And remember that night at CBGB's
Ya said the chick was givin' freebies
When you told her how ya never paid
She carved yer nuts with a razor blade

"No Future" was our mantra...
"No Future" was our mantra
"No Future" was our mantra
Funny how the past comes back to haunt you!

Damn, I feel stupid, I forgot Marty, Quick, turn around!
He was in the loo when we left, so he may not even know we went without him ;D ;D

Marty Brooke, lives in the states, but arrived here from Manchester. He lives in Michigan, and he's a wonderful musician and composer. I met him at the Muse Site and he brought his original CBGB lyric to me for a looksee. It was a sweeter piece then; mostly, about looking back and reminiscing.
As we were becoming aquainted, he told me about an old friend from college that he tried to reach out to, but was somewhat rebuffed. I took that theme and basically re-wrote his sweet, sentimental CBGB into what it is here today.  But, he liked my take...go figure. :o
I contacted Marty about Ian, and he was all for someone else doing the music, (punk music not being his thing), but I never expected Ian's super-fast turn-around... ;D
Sooo, I want to make sure my friend Marty gets credit too...Thank You Marty for being such a great sport!  Cheers, Johnny

;D ;D This must be a sign that 2011 is going to be a "WILD AND CRAZY" year, here at MCS!!
Great stuff guys - now if only I knew what the heck CBGB was?! :D

I think Ian(Stonehead) and Mike(snowdoguk) could probably bring back the glory days of punk all by themselves :D :D :D

Of course, if they need it, they know they'll "get by with a little help from their friends". ;)

...and speaking of friends, it's great to have you here Johnny - I don't feel like I have a competitor, but rather a comrade :)

Cheers and Happy 2011,

John

Hey John

Glad you liked it ... a bit of madness does ya good  ;D

I have to confess to looking up CBGB's myself and it was a very successful Rock and Punk club in New York until it closed in 2006 (I think). It still has a very active web presence http://cbgb.com/

Maybe Johnny should send them the track  :-X

Cheers Ian

Very well done, great lyrics, great music.  Ian, you're sick, no doubt, but in a very good way.

Hey Stonehead....great job with our lyric !! Great fun, love the guitar sounds and the punk audience samples haha. Also like the morphing punk vocals, very cool. My only slight point would be that this is the longest punk song in history...most are 1.30 thu 2.30 mins haha But you sound like you are enjoying it so much and we forget all that !! LOL

I'm surprized how many people are not aware of CBGB's. It was just about the most famous club in the world in the late 70's. I made a pilgrimage there in 2006 and just afterward it closed!! ....so you don;t want me going to your club, that's for sure!!

Would be approriate if you gave me a credit on your website along with the fantastic Jonny W....please mate. We musoes are sensitive like that. :)
Take care
Marty
Peace
Marty

Hi Marty
Glad you like the song which is indeed rather long for a punk track but as the intro and mid aren't strictly punk either I guess this more of a hybrid  (Evil son of punk >:D;)

Johnny explained that the original inspiration came from conversations he had with you so as he asked, you will find your name as co lyrisist on the sites where I have posted it (Reverbnation and IMW) ... I dont promote my music that much as I prefer to be writing and recording so feel free to post it wherever you like.

Cheers Ian
