Our own tribute to Deep Purple, specifically All I Got Is You from the "infinite" album as tribute to Deep Purple.
  • Vocals/Guitar/Mastering: George Williams (napoleonboot)
  • Keyboards/Mix: Gary Miller (gbm)
  • Bass: Andy Gupta (AndyG6508)
  • Drums: Stephen Smith (Albino)
As usual great fun and an end result to be proud of. The team were all great to work with. In particular I'd like to thank Steve for wrestling the jazzy drumming sections to the ground, even though they were was a bit alien to him, Gary for his super fast and accurate work on KBs and mixing, and Andy for bringing Mr Glover's bass parts to life (they can hardly be heard in the original).

All I Got is You - Lyrics
Oh, yeah
I see the way you roll your eyes
The way you purse your lips
Throw your stuff into a suitcase
Put your hands upon your hips

I'm not moved by your evil glare
The way you toss your hair
You make stupid accusations
By which time I've lost the thread

Sometimes I wonder how it is you get
To piss me off this much
I may be heavier handed
But I like the tender touch
You moan and groan about me staying out
And drinking with the guys
How about I bring them home - try this one for size!

There's something awfully wrong with this deal babe
Any fool could see it's true
Can't you understand how I feel babe
You've got me, but all I've got is you

I guess I just don't have it in me
To keep you satisfied
To be honest with you babe
I'm only in it for the ride
And you may never bring yourself to take me as I am
But in case you hadn't noticed
I don't give a fucking damn!

KB's were brilliant Gary. I still can't over how fast you put them together. I bet you didn't end up with sore finger tips like I did in the process.

I was also really impressed with figuring out those fast unison lines saving the rest of us some head-scratching. This is the first song I've done in 17 years of online collabs where we have resorted to musical notation to describe things. I'll be thrown out of the guitar players guild doing that sort of thing.

All good!  8)

I'm so pleased with the outcome  of this.  Probably (almost) better Deep Purple themselves!

Thanks for letting me get involved with Cheap Purple!

As you've said the guitars and solos are excellent
The bass is excellent
and so are the keys.

Gary your mix is also excellent.

loved playing all of this, well, almost all  ;)

 >:D

Steve.

Steve

back in the day (before discovering online collaboration) I was a "rock musician", but in 17 years of online collaboration I have taken part in ragtime, country, metal, pop, musical theatre, jazz, swing. Actually I was a "rock guitarist". I am only now a singer because of stretching myself (at Andy's prompting).

It's one of the joys of online collaboration that you can experience and learn how to play in the styles these different genres without embarrasing the heck out of yourself on stage, in a safe and supportive environment.

I jest. I did enjoy stretching myself. But give me rock any day  ;)

Oh, this turned out really well!!

Everything - vocals, guitars, keys and drums are spot on. Great mix/master by Gary and GG too.

Well done guys!

This version does have a warmer or live feel to it than the original recording.

George - could you post a wav version of the mastered file when you get the chance

Andy

Hi Andy

Here's an APE version if that's OK, or do you want me to convert it?
