Hey peeps,

A couple of peeps mentioned that I should post this on here.

This was a track I started back in 2001 as a MIDI composition which wasn't going anywhere so in 2006 I joined artistcollaboration to see if I could get it finished.

Thanks to -

Composition/MIDI/Arrangement/Production - madfiddler
Lyrics - Marazetti /Pleasuredome
Composition/Vox - Pleasuredome
Drums - jwoo10
Acoustic Guitar - Schenkerguy
Electric Bass Guitar - Schenkerguy
Electric Guitar - mlc
Electric Wah Guitar - SimonH1

This is the original idea

And this is the final (?) mix - new url

I say final, but it's probably not. It's the best I'm going to do in the near future due to mini-madfiddler being born this week. I know I need to de-ess the vocals and reduce the radio effect in the middle... but there we go.

Massive thanks to all involved in the track. It's grown way beyond my expectations when I posted the original thread, It's massive....

Here's the link to the rather large (haha) 28 page thread

Once again, thanks to all involved.. WOW!!!!

Hi Newbie (Bad Fingers)  >:D

Yeah! this is really cool.  8)

The drums are rock solid.  8) The strings complement the track. Not totally sure about originality when it comes to the string melody. But they are nice. The song even though is intense and full may have too much going on at once but there is a lot of idea's in there. Maybe too many. Vocals are nice. Sometimes I feel the singing melody is too much the same but the part where the drum groove changes.. That part is just fab. I like the part near the end where the effects has been placed on the vocals and the is an awesome drum fill.  The lyrics are very well written.

The bass is alright but not as solid as I would of liked to hear it but it does have some nice runs in it that work with the tune. The piano is beautiful and works well.

Fab work.

Tubes  8)

Hi Tubes,

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, perhaps I did get a tad carried away when I added the strings and brass, haha :)

I was lucky to get bass at all. Was having a bit of difficulty there, but was lucky in the end that one of the guitarists offered to do it. For me, the piano is a bit of a let down, as I can't play piano so it doesn't have much life for me... and just edited to try to make it sound more human.

I'd still like to de-ess the vocals and reduce the volume of the 'radio' vox, but new baby and life will get in the way so drawing a line on it for now.

Anyway, cheers for that.

m

Thank you friends :) :)

I love it...........................and I agree regarding it being epic :) :)

I always remember Mark, when he got home in the early hours and decided to give my vocal take a listen:) :) :)

I love the lyrical idea and thanks for the inspiration Marazetti, not to mention the power of work done by all the other contributors.......excellent.

It's your creation that started the ball rolling Mark, thanks!

And enjoy the new addition to the family and the years of enjoyment they will bring :)

Cheers guys,

I have heard this song develop and I somehow think that Mark might add just another two orchestras and not be too greedy!!! ;) ;) :) :) :)

Honestly, I love this and it really does equate to the word epic!

Loved the original lyrical idea right from the start, not to mention the song structure.

Thanks for letting me be a part of it M!

Thanks mate - As I've already said, although the site appears dead now, for me, your voice makes the song... and it was a completely different sound to what I originally had in my head.

A couple of friends have commented that they thought the singer was Scottish.. and I can't figure out how....

Here's a copy of the song since the cc site going down has renedered all the links broken

The lyrics are

Smoke Plumes

verse 1:
On a high flying wagon train
Feel the sun through the window pane
Ran them black hats clear out of town
Hired a posse and gunned them all down

So let 'em raise a big dust cloud
You did good and your Mama's proud
No telling what the truth will find
But you're sky-high now with an open mind

Chorus:

And it's funny how the views can change
Thirty-thousand feet up and way down range
Are those smoke plumes in the air?
Or a line of clouds in the predawn glare?
It may be funny how the views can change
Some would argue it's a fair exchange
Other minds they think they just don't care
When posed the question do you think it's fair?

verse 2:

Not sure what you really did
'Til historians lift the lid
Will a new world war dance cut it?
Open Pandora's box or shut it?

Is the world now a better place?
Did it just fall flat on its face?
No telling what you left behind
But you're sky-high now with an open mind

Chorus:
And it's funny how the views can change
Thirty-thousand feet up and way down range
Are those smoke plumes in the air?
Or a line of clouds in the predawn glare?
It may be funny how the views can change
Some would argue it's a fair exchange
Other minds they think they just don't care
When posed the question do you think it's fair?

bridge:

Why does Time always grant us sight
Of what we did wrong and what we did right
When it's too late to change a thing?
When the swan has sung her song and taken to the wing?
How long can Wisdom survive
Unwanted: Dead or Alive?
A lone voice 'mid the home team cheers -
"I give you these for they have no ears"

verse 3:

Final toast on a midnight plane
In full stealth mode and free of blame
It all went like you said it would
Took on the press and you fooled 'em good

Heading home with a loaded chest
Oiled Stetson and a cowboy vest
You know, you really robbed 'em blind
But you're sky-high now with an open mind

Chorus:

And it's funny how the views can change
Thirty-thousand feet up and way down range
Are those smoke plumes in the air?
Or a line of clouds in the predawn glare?
It may be funny how the views can change
Some would argue it's a fair exchange
Other minds they think they just don't care
When posed the question do you think it's fair?

It's quite a sweeping epic journey listening to this.

Would make a great song for a modern western movie.

Cool

CD
We never finish a mix... we simply abandon them.
You can't polish a turd, but you can always spray paint it GOLD
Great songs are not written, they are re-witten
