Another one done. :)

Lyrics: Paul Dempsey
Vocals: Todd Swain
Drums: Gerald Langenfeld
Bass: Preston Miller
Guitar: George Williams
Composed, arranged & mixed by Steffen Offermann

Such A Fool

I must have been blind
Not to see the sadness
Behind your blue eyes

And I must have been deaf
Because I never heard
Any of your anguish cries

   Seems you're the lucky one
   Since you walked out
   And I know that I'm a fool
   There's no doubt
   Complacency is cruel
   And I'm such a fool
   Such a fool

Now my eyes are wide open
I see all that I lost
All I'll never replace

And my ears hear my cries
But the nights never end
And I've no one to embrace

I've learned too late, I'm in the denial state
   And you're still gone
   Every night, every dawn
   You're still gone

   Seems you're the lucky one
   Since you walked out
   And I know that I'm a fool
   There's no doubt
   Complacency is cruel
   And I'm such a fool
   Such a fool

I enjoyed playing on this.

This is the first time I have created harmony guitar parts, it was harder than I expected. A good learning experience.

It sounds as if you had been doing it for ages, George! :)

I hope to be working with you again soon.

I have been playing harmony lead for ages, but only on this song.  :D

Btw: I'll probably do a "studio mix" some time later. But I don't know when ...

Guys, great job, I really like this one, simple but powerful.

Thanks for the chance to be involved.

Steffen, great job on the mix as usual.

Thanks, guys, I'm glad you like the result! :) Thank you all again for making this possible!

I attached an alternative mix - more like what you'd find on an 80s CD. I think I like this one better. But decide for yourselves - I'll leave them both online. :)

I also did a 70s mix that is slightly different from the 80s mix but probably only noticeable for the experienced ear. If anybody is interested in that mix, call me! ;)

BTW - anybody interested in a FLAC version of the final mix(es)?

Regards,
  Steffen

Very Beautifull tune, nice vocals... I only don't like one thing, the String. I think they're too much synthetic for such an acustic song, on the other side they're too much loud on the mix...

Anyway, if those are the kind of strings you guys like for this song, I'd tweak the atack, sustain and realease because they start and finish very abrupt, they should start sort of fading in and finish sort of fading out.

Dunno if what I said makes any sense, only my opinion.

Beautifull song and great words. Keep rocking guys.

Thanks for your comment, Paulo! :)

I'll listen to the strings again. You may be right as I must admit that I did not pay too much attention to the strings in terms of articulation. It works for my ears, but my ears are always tired, so I should not trust them too much. ;)

Can you do me the favor and listen to the 80s mix too? I think it works slightly better.

Regards,
  Steffen

Steffen,
I think there's the same problem with the strings on the second mix... They should be smoother to fit better in this tune, just my opinion.

Still, I love the song, is beautifull

Danke, Holger! :)

Paulo, I listened again, but I could not find anything wrong with the strings. Can you tell me where exactly you think they should be softer?

The attack actually is very slow, but the sustain may be a bit short. Is that what you mean?

  Steffen
