Another food-based lyric to emerge from this summer's 50/90 challenge.
(I must have spent a good deal of the time hungry.  ::) )

Hope you enjoy it.  ;)

Peter Kossits: Sax
Donna Devine: Lyrics

Cream of Depression Soup

(v1)
I went bananas over you
Thought everything was apples
Mmmm hmmm darlin' I heard it so clear
It was weddin' bells and chapels

Chorus
Now I'm goin' cold turkey
Gettin' over you
You knocked out the stuffin'
When you up and said adieu
Leavin' Cream of Depression
As the soup du jour
Leavin' Cream of Depression
As the soup du jour

(v2)
Lovin' you was a piece of cake
The cherry on the icin'
Mmmm hmmm darlin' it all seemed so clear
Our future lay in splicin'

Chorus
Now I'm goin' cold turkey
Gettin' over you
You knocked out the stuffin'
When you up and said adieu
Leavin' Cream of Depression
As the soup du jour
Leavin' Cream of Depression
As the soup du jour

Bridge
I hope you get your just desserts
You blended, mixed, and spiced me
Tossed me into your fryin' pan
Then dragged me out and diced me
Fried me but I'm beggin' for more
You left me toasted at the core

Chorus
Now I'm goin' cold turkey
Gettin' over you
You knocked out the stuffin'
When you up and said adieu
Leavin' Cream of Depression
As the soup du jour
Leavin' Cream of Depression
As the soup du jour

SAY YO YO!!!

Damn - you guys might have Bootsy Collins and the Grand Master Funk after your butts for doing an awesome song that sounds just like something out of the Parliment/Funkadelics music catalog.

Seriously - I am adding this to my personal collection.  This is just too darn good to not jam along with at home and blast through my PA at my live gigs between sets.

Billy - you maniac...thanks for putting all of us guitar/bass/drummrs out of business!!  Great lyrics Donna, really amazing arrangement, Peter's sax playing & Billy's vocals.  Truly excellent stuff!!   8)

Great Title !  I'm adding it to my Christmas Menu  ;D

Very funky tune , love the horns and the multitracked vocals are really effective 8)

We never finish a mix... we simply abandon them.

Great work everyone, very enjoyable song.

Donna, maybe it's better if you don't eat.

Cool beans!

This HAS TO BE the first time "apples" and "chapels" have ever been rhymed in a song....

We all know about Billy and Donna for a long time, always very nice stuff... I'll leave my comments to the almost knew guy on board, Peter...

... Sweet Sax Solo, man...

... Rocking.
Live the best you can 'cause you're gonna be dead for a long time.

Thanks Paulo, I had fun doing this one.

Yes, this is the first completed collaboration that I have ever played on (8-9 years after discovering these types of sites....didn't take too, too long!).

Now I gotta figure out how to get myself INSIDE one of Billy's horn sections. Those guys sound like they're having a blast and are playing through the whole song. I hate standing around on stage waiting for my turn.

Thanks, everyone.  :) I'm pleased you like this as much as I do.  ;D
Paul, you may be right.  ;) In fact, during the 50/90 challenge I actually lost weight. I was so focused on trying to write a decent lyric every second day, that I often simply forgot to eat.  ;D

Yes, that sax was gorgeous, Peter.  :) But be careful what you wish for... You may be asked to play sax (or even flute) through an entire track one day.  ;)
