Hey Marty,

I'm responding to post Marty100 (newbie ;D) placed in studio A...

The lyric is certainly not storytelling A to B.

I overheard a couple of carpenters talking on their lunch break...One had been contacted by his Mother's old boyfriend because his health was failing. It seems he had befriended the boy (unlike his real father) and they became very close until he and his mother split. For several year after, he continued to send him gifts, but lost touch over time...I left at that point.
Soon after that i came upon, Holger's lovely tune and he was looking for a bittersweet lyric.
I purposely wrote it vague. In today's relationship strewn world, there are many different family dynamics being created, destroyed and re-created daily. I wanted the listener to make up their own mind about this two...Are they father/daughter or father/son? What was their connection? Is he dying or already dead...what happened? Is He, even a He? All fair questions, to be sure...left to the listeners imagination....Johnny  :)

Johnny,

what can I say? Thank you so much for this look behind!!! The more I listen the more I love the lyrics.

Its a special gift to pick up such stories and turn it into lyrics.
I've got feedback from myownmusic.de from german musicians and they all told me that it is a fine tune, the arrangement, all instrument parts and the mix are great but the best thing about this song is the friction (I hope it is the right word) of (or between) the sweet music and the bitter lyrics!
That was EXACTLY my intention  :)
Imagine this simple and relaxedly tune with sweet "I love you and you love me" lyrics - for my personal taste it would be an overload of candy  ;D

thanks again to all involved

Holger

as requested here a few reviews from myownmusic.de:

ms:
now I listen for the 6th time and the more I listen the more I love it. I also hear that you have your own style (had a listen to other soulfrontier and friend songs too)
what I hear is a very nice song with a great arrangement..perfect. The solo has a lot of feeling and gives the song additional emotional fulness.
5 stars for you and a "Hit of the day".

Eela:
fluffy song with earworm chorus. Although the lyrics are not the song sounds happy. I like your voice, good to see that you are working on new songs again.

Roxemble:
a song like a 5 star meal

the logical guess:
That's YOUR style! unique voice. Very nice song with a touch of the greatest from America: Springsteen, Petty, Seeger and so on.
That song on a big stage and the lighters go on.

Kerstin Sander:
very expressional lyrics, emotional and authentic production. The solo guitar is brilliant. Nice song!

Gilbert and friends:
very nice creaking bass, the flow is great and fluffy. Have I told you before that you guys sound like the Beatles? Would wish a bit more reverb for the vox, have a healthy new year!

the A:
confident like usual, this time with a touch of Tom Petty and a bit of John Lennon in your voice.
The vocals reveal the bitterness of the great lyrics.
The contrast of sweet music and bitter lyrics makes it very interesting because its against all expectations. That's fascinating.
The instrumentation is rich and nice and playful. A lot of nice details in it! You have to listen more than only one time to recognize all this details.
Very good mix, it sounds ease and transparent. every instrument is well balanced.
It sounds very nice and professional.

Cheeky ba****d  :o

Very good mix, it sounds ease and transparent. every instrument is well balanced.
It sounds very nice and professional.

That's better  ;D  ;D

CD
We never finish a mix... we simply abandon them.
You can't polish a turd, but you can always spray paint it GOLD
Great songs are not written, they are re-witten

Gilbert and friends:
very nice creaking bass,

Creaky bass seems to suggest me wielding a huge double bass and Im wheezing :)

Seriously though, great reviews and good for you Holger and Johnnie.

earworm

LMAO :D

Does anybody understand what that means? It's a typical German word that cannot be translated to English - but maybe it has been adopted in the meantime. :P

BTW - Does the English speaking world still laugh about the German use of the word "handy"?

Sorry for off topic, guys. Great song, Holger - but you knew what I think about it anyway.

Regards,
  Steffen

 ;D ;D ;D

"fluffy song" must be another of those German expressions that doesn't quite translate! ::)
