It hurts me to say that my Mother was an alcoholic. She never drank at all until her mid 40's but once she did, she slipped from being a vibrant, beautiful woman to a sad alcoholic living on her own. Although it would be easy to dwell on how this affected my Father, sister and brothers, this track is about her life as an alcoholic and how it affected her.

Once again my heartfelt thanks goes out to my fellow collaborators for making this tune into a great tune.

Tricia : Vocals and Melody
Ken : Drums
Andy : Bass
Mick : Guitars, Keyboards, Mixing/Mastering

When Josie Takes The Bottle

She wakes up in the morning
Stretches out her hand
She's groggy in the darkness
With a head full of sand

Reaching for the bottle
There are tears upon her cheeks
Drinking from the glass
So the walls forget to speak

But when Josie takes the bottle
All the angels break down and cry

No light in this dingy room
The acrid smell of smoke
Crying in the darkness
The sobs making her choke

Where did all the years go
How swiftly they have passed
She wrapped them all in sorrow
And put them in a glass

But when Josie takes the bottle
All the angels break down and cry

Bridge :
There's no light in her darkness
No light on in her head
She walks the threadless carpet
And falls back into bed
She can sleep for two more hours
Until the room begins to shake
When she reaches for the glass again
As her heart begins to break

Will she ever make tomorrow
Will she make it through today
Can she feel the love again
That the drink has taken away

Will she think nights of her boy child
Who loved her with his life
Watched the sea roll over her
And receeded like a knife

Coz when Josie takes the bottle
All the Angels break down and cry

There's simply no light in this sad, sad song!  :(

It's too painful to listen too...

Except for the parts where it sounds like Eric Clapton stopped by to jam! ;)

Great songwriting...,but, wow, is this ever depressing...Cheers!  Oops...I meant to say, Uhhh, Cheerio... ???

Nice work everyone, The production is terrific!!! :)

Nice Bluesy tune, me likes a lot... Tricia you got the blues in the voice.
Live the best you can 'cause you're gonna be dead for a long time.

Hi Mick,

Thanks for letting me be a part of what is a very personal song for you. I would gently suggest that you write in a little explanation about the song's subject matter, in the introductory post.

The performances are great, I have never heard Tricia sing an outright blues before, she has done a marvelous job with a lot of emotion. Mick, your guitar and keys playing show your versatility and that guitar solo is hot. Ken's drumming is right in the pocket with nice little variations and fills throughout.

You are probably right, Andy. I'll write a little story on the main post, although it will hurt to bear my soul so much.

Tricia did a masterful job singing the blues. I know it was, at first, out of your comfort zone but you picked it up real quick. Your professionalism always amazes me and you are an absolute pleasure to work with. Andy, as ever, you nailed the bass even though I first thought you did it a little "busy". After a few plays I could tell that you did it the right way and it sounds awesome. The bass in most blues songs needs to be up front and personal. Ken did a fantastic job on the tubs and locked everything together, thanks buddy :)

As for me, this was a very emotional piece. I put my heart, soul and a few tears into this. My keyboard playing is pretty limited, but after advertising 3 songs that needed keys over 6 months I have decided to learn how to play the keys. Sometimes you just have to have them.

I sincerely thank my 3 collaborators, plus Bill (R4M), for your help, support and performances :)

Mick.

Everyone:

Sad but excellent presentation.

Mick, we all have our demons and sad times, it's what makes us, right or wrong.

Paul : Thanks buddy, I'm glad you like it. Sad song, but that's the blues right? :)

Bill : Mate, I love your playing and listen to everything you do, so getting a "thumbs-up" for my solo from you is praise indeed. Come to NJ and I'll get you a ticket for that Bonamassa concert :)

Hey Mick,

Once again thank you for the kind words about the bass part. I am glad to be part of this song. Its takes a lot of guts to write about something so personal and share it with other people...

Your guitar solo melts wax, and your keys and bass playing arent too shabby either.

Thanks Andy ... I remember you stepping up to the plate and dropping me a killer synth solo on "Flares" :)

Pure class by everybody, all the way through.
It takes a brave man/woman to open their chest to the world and show the pain in their heart.
Well done, Mick & everybody.
