Just bought me a new desktop for music... I cloned the HD from the other 'puter and everything is working fine, exacly mounted the same way the other one was but now I got noise on the monitors and phones even when nothing is playing... If I move the mouse, there's more noise, when the HD are loading, there's even more noise, if I'm doing nothing, there's noise

I got the latest drivers of the sound card and it is an Edirol UA4FX, usb unit... Any clues?

PS... it is not damadged, if I connect it to the other 'puter, there's no noise at all.

You know somewhere in the dark recesses of my brain I remember reading about mouse movement causing audio problems on music Pc's.

As far as I can recall it was related to the graphics card/driver. Sorry I can't remember any more than that, it was probably in Sound on Sound or somewhere I read it...it was a few years back.

Might be worth checking out. Just have to eliminate these things one at a time.

Make sure you have the latest drivers for the graphics card. Try disabling 3d accelleration if you have the option.  Also try swapping the card for your old one if you can.

I wil, althought it's a nre 'puter

I'll see if there's such a thing, I doub it, it's an onboard Intel unit.

Also try swapping the card for your old one if you can.

I can't they're onboard cards... I'll try a pci card to see what happens.

Yeah , disable the onboard in the bios and stick your Pci one in. See if that helps. If not then at least it's one thing to cross off the list  8)

No sound card, no power supply... Sometimes I forget about my family and within my family there's some smart and expereinced arses like my brother.. It's an earth loop problem... disconnect the earth from the 'puter or the audio monitors, that's it!!!... Thanks brother  ;D... Besides that, he plays a mean guitar  :o

No !

I've read about people being injured or killed by doing this. Your equipment needs to be earthed for safety reasons.

Now at least you know the problem you can fix it, but reconnect the earth or risk electrocution.

Hope the link works as I can't figure the copy and paste on this tablet :-)

Yes you're right... I'll disconnect from the monitors, they're made of wood, they won't hurt me.

I'm no electrician but I don't think that will stop you getting a shock if anything went wrong  :o  Everything is connected to each other right ?

All the system is connected to each other so, if one of the pieces is earthed, you won't be injured.

No I think the opposite is true. If you remove one earth then it can all potentially become live if there's a fault in any of the equipment connected.

There's plenty of info though if you Google it.
