I wanted real drums and bass for this song, and I still think it needs something to beef it up. But it doesn't look like anything will happen, so this is the final version.

Thanks to Paul (PVD) for another great lyric and for letting me compose a melody for it, and to the ever patient Errol (Chesook), who's voice is perfect for ballads like this.

This was the original thread in Studio "A":

Vocals: Errol Chugg
Lyrics: Paul Dempsey
Composed, arranged & mixed by Steffen Offermann

Soul At Rest
(Paul Dempsey, 2010)

Once I climbed mountains
That I encountered
Just to say I could
Once I ran every race
Held onto the lead
And beat them all good

Once it was important
That I always succeed
No matter the cost
I use to keep records
Tracking all the gains
Never saw what I lost

Now I am who I am
Never beat my chest
I am who I am
Just a soul at rest
Yes, I am content
Life's is not a test
I am content
Being a soul at rest

Once you were at my side
But I left you behind
I live with that regret
Thinking of the good times
Your face is the one I see
The one I'll never forget

Things tend to change
They get rearranged
When it's all said and done
What was once number one
Doesn't seem to matter ......

Now I am who I am
Never beat my chest
I am who I am
Just a soul at rest
Yes, I am content
Life's is not a test
I am content
Being a soul at rest

Regards,
  Steffen

Thanks Steffen and Paul for allowing me to be a part of this. Not often I sing a song I didn't write the tune for - and I prefer to replace my vocals on those. So I feel very privileged to be asked to try this one.  :)

Errol/Steffen:

This turn out very well, I think it is more than any one of us thought originally.

TKs to both of you for giving this one a chance.

Paul

Thanks, guys!

But I really hate those synth drums - especially the snare. I'll probably replace them one day - or maybe redo the whole arrangement.

The song needs something ... lyrics and vocals are great, but IMO the song itself is rather weak. It is being ignored at other sites, which confirms that to me.  ::)

  Steffen

Steffen most of my songs are ignored, don't worry.

This song is great no doubt. Sure you can improve the arrangement and real drums would add more atmosphere.
I hope you will find an interested drummer for this tune!

Thanks, Holger. It would already help if I'd take the time to improve the synth drums.

Your songs are ignored? Come on!

  Steffen

Hey Errol,

Stoman is right - your voice is perfect for this. I can almost imagine it as something Elvis might have sung during his LV days :).

The lyrics are solid, and the piano tone is lovely.

And Steffen, Holger I dont think your songs are ignored!! You both have some great stuff out.

Andy
